AND WHEN I DIE - Blood Sweat & Tears 1969-2008 【HQ】

This is a mashup of nearly 40 years of video clips of Blood, Sweat & Tears, from 1969-2008, and features lead vocalist David Clayton-Thomas performing their hit single "And When I Die". The song was among my favorites as a teen and groups such as BS&T, Chase and Chicago inspired me to play the horn. (OMG, has it really been four decades since I bought this on vinyl?) The video features a clip from BS&T's Woodstock performance, a rare and extended tuba solo by Dave Bargeron (which you won't find on any commercially released version), and brief clips of Clayton-Thomas performing as a solo artist at several venues with, among others, the dynamic jazz-fusion group Tower Of Power. Jerry Fisher, who succeeded Clayton-Thomas as lead singer (1972-74), makes a brief appearance during Bargeron's tuba solo but does not sing. Although Clayton-Thomas was not an original founding member of BS&T, it was during his tenure the group became commercially successful. "And When I Die" was one of several hit singles from Blood, Sweat & Tears' self-titled second album (1969) and was among several songs the group recorded that was written by the late Laura Nyro, one of the most talented songwriters of the 1960s. Incidentally, in the lead-in to the song Clayton-Thomas recalls an early encounter with Nyro, bassist Jim Fielder's girlfriend at the time, and how he was turned onto the song "And When I Die". It had previously been recorded by Nyro herself, and enjoyed limited success as a Peter, Paul ...

Teri Thornton - Knee Deep in the Blues

From the album " I'll Be Easy to Find" (1999) "After a nearly 40-year hiatus, Thornton is back to swing and sing her way into your heart. In comparison to her old Riverside recordings, it seems she's lost nothing vocally, the angelic clarity and souful vibrato intact, her enthuisiasm spiking depth charts. She's backed by her own piano on four cuts, the able Ray Chew on the others save Norman Simmons for the sole live in concert finale (she and Simmons are credited?) with bassist Lonnie Plaxico, alto sax and flute master Jerome Richardson, trombonist Dave Bargeron, multi-instrumentalist Howard Johnson, and dummer JT Lewis. At her best on ballads, blues and upbeat swingers, Thornton proves she really can do it all. Her rippling, Ella cum Sarah chords are unfettered on a rousing live "Salty Mama" with Grady Tate (drums) and Michael Bowie (bass). The funky blues is alright with Thornton on "Feels Good." A showstopper "Knee Deep in the Blues," and the faded in and out bossa "Wishing Well" are all from her pen. The most unusual arrangement by producer Suzi Reynolds of "Nature Boy" has no discernable time signature. It's kinetic but seems to float, Plaxico punctuating but never seeming to ever hit one. Richardson's great flute work and the background horns of Bargeron and Johnson play inquisitive mind games, quite a challenging listen. She sings ballads "Somewhere In The Night," "Where Are You Running?" and the title cut immaculately, though not kitten soft but forcefully ...
