Interview with bass player, Deon Estus - Formally of Wham!

Grand Bahama Island - The Bahamas Weekly brings you an exclusive interview with Deon Estus, American bassist and singer, best known as the bass player of "Wham!" and as George Michael's bassist on all of his subsequent projects after Wham! This interview was recorded at Mackeymedia Communications in Freeport. Estus was born in Detroit and his bass teacher as a child was the late James Jameson of Motown fame (the Funk Brothers). Deon has played with the likes of Elton John, Marvin Gaye, Tina Turner, and Stevie Wonder, just to name a few. Click to view the video interview (February 25, 2008) and hear Deon play a few riffs on his bass, and speak of his career and future projects... Deon Estus on Wikipedia BIO: Deon Estus epitomizes the phrase, "Born to perform!" From the time his great-grandmother gave him his first guitar at age of three, it was obvious that Deon and music was a match made in heaven. Coming from a family deeply involved with the arts, Deon's affinity for music was first manifested in singing opera with the Philadelphia Philharmonic Orchestra's youth program and soon gravitated to an overwhelming passion for the bass guitar. He quickly established himself as a local prodigy in the Detroit area and beyond, playing such venues as Motown studios, the Apollo theatre, the Grand Ole Opry, and Carnegie Hall. Forming a band while still in his teens, Deon produced many dance hits resulting in his invitation to tour the United States as opening act for both The ...

jazz bass, Bass player, jazz music - Charnett Moffett - Swing Street

Charnett Moffett plays upright bass, fretless electric bass, and electric piccolo bass. motema.com For musicians, compositions are precious reflections of the soul -- aural snapshots of emotions, reflections and conceptions covering broad swaths of human expression and experience. Each offering allows the musician a new opportunity to communicate on varying wavelengths - conscious and subconscious, simple and complex, spiritual and intellectual. Over the course of a fascinating career that began at a very young age, the virtuosic Charnett Moffett has reached profound musical depths and expanded the possibilities of jazz composition and performance through his creative imagination using his instruments as his voice. His approach to music making and recording can be challenging and unorthodox. Yet the rewards for taking on those challenges are often awe-inspiring, revelatory - and can elevate mere songs to Treasure, the title of Charnett's second project for Motéma Music and his eleventh as a leader.

Revolution - John Butler Trio

The Trio includes bass player Byron Luiters, and Nicky Bomba on drums. (lyrics copyright John Butler, 2010) So tell me family now what do you think? Watch it all go in the great big sink. Watch how the scum it rises to the top. Don't you wonder when it's all gonna stop? Sometimes I wonder how we do sleep, serving the dodgy companies we keep. All kicking and scrounging for the very first place - dictionary definition of a rat race. Pay off those losers we elect to lead, stealing from the mouths that we're meant to feed. Enslaving the very clothes upon my back, I feel the sting but I hear no crack, no crack, I'm saying + Running through the fire, running through the flame, running through the hatred, pushing through the blame, running through the hopelessness and shame, revolution already underway ++ [B]ig Heavy [P]irates man digging those holes, messing with something that they can't control. Trespassing lands where they don't belong, all I hear is screaming where there once were songs. I got my brothers they're fighting those wars, fighting over scraps and scraping their sores. Under a blanket of a fire and pride that can't keep us warm for the cold inside, inside, I'm saying + So tell me when you think we're gonna rise? Wake from this slumber wipe the tears from our eyes? Yes from this nightmare yes I must now wake, open my fist my destiny I take! Good people sick and tired of being pushed around, we call them kings but I see no crown. Mortiis - Everyone Leaves

#Biography Starting his career as bass player in Norwegian black metal band Emperor, Mortiis quit to pursue solo work. Abandoning metal music, he dedicated himself to compose eerie and melancholic dark ambient soundtracks. #Websites www.mortiis.com http #Lyrics I'm going back, thinking about all the changes. I'm going back to all those wasted years. I see the rise and fall of the world I lived in. This time it doesn't seem real at all. But I took the fall and on came all the changes. All i had could not be saved - it was far too late. Everyone leaves. In the end. Everything dies. In the end. It doesn't matter how hard you hold on. I'm going back to the times you went away. I thought you thought that I was the monster. I see the rise and fall of the world that I made. I always wanted to take you with me. And then I saw some people for the people that I thought they were. In your painful absence. Everyone leaves. In the end. Everything dies. In the end. It doesn't matter how hard you hold on. How hard can you? Do you want to hold on? How hard can you? The all leave in the end. How hard can you? We all die in the end. #Further information The song got cutoff at the end. I don't know why.

Humble Pie - Live In Australia 1982

www.humble-pie.net Also of possible interest..... www.goldymcjohn.com Recorded off Australian late night TV music show "Rock Arena" in 1983. The wonderful, slightly drunk, Steve Marriott and band at the early eighties 2 day music festival at Ponde, near Adelaide South Australia. I love the start when Steve starts the song riff and the bass player goes to join in only to find his bass isn`t plugged into the amp! Many thanks to "jimgeorge1" for pointing out that the keyboard player is Goldy McJohn, a former member of Steppenwolf and letting me know that the Bass player was Jim Leverton and the drummer (unseen) was Fallon Williams. Interestingly, Fallon Williams enjoyed the tour down under so much that he consequently moved here. I`d also like to suggest that at this time in Steve Marriott`s recording career the most likely name of the group would have been "STEVE MARRIOTT and THE PACKET OF THREE". Although for possibly obvious reasons, concert promoters often used the name "Humble Pie" for advertising and promotional purposes. Something Steve Marriott was evidently none too pleased about.

James Last - Havah Nagila

JAMES LAST didn't burst forth on the popular music scene with a fanfare of trumpets and explosions of fire-work. He just sort of emerged in a quiet cloak of talent. For three years running LAST was voted best bass player in a German jazz poll. But the minute he found out that having an orchestra and being able to experiment with hit songs was much more satisfying and rewarding, JAMES LAST was on the way to becoming a true giant in the world of today popular music. The remarkable abilities as a bass player are only part of his musical talent. He also is an accomplished songwriter, arranger and bandleader.
