Driving up Bealach na Ba (Pass Of The Cattle)(Applecross Road)

Driving over to Applecross Obviously this video has been speeded up as I'm sure most people wouldn't want to sit through 20mins of me driving up a mountain pass at 30mph ;)

Who needs the Alps? Bealach na Ba (Applecross Pass) on a BMW R1200GS

This is the majority of the famed Bealach na Ba (gaelic for 'Pass of the Cattle') into Applecross in the HIghlands of Scotland. Not the best surface or the widest tarmac, but it is one of the most stunning roads in the country - with more in common with an Apline pass than a Scottish B road! Here's a quick snippet from Wikipedia; "The road is one of few in the Scottish Highlands that is engineered similarly to roads through the great mountain passes in the Alps, with very tight hairpin bends that switch back and forth up the hillside and gradients that approach 20%. It boasts the greatest ascent of any road climb in the UK, rising from sea level at Applecross to 626 metres (2054 ft), and is the third highest road in Scotland. The name is from the Gaelic for Pass of the Cattle, as it was historically used as a drovers' road." Bike is an '09 BMW R1200GS with Akrapovic silencer.

Clannad - An Bealach Seo 'tá Romhainn

Clannad are a Grammy Award-winning Irish musical group, from Gweedore (Gaoth Dobhair), County Donegal. Their music has been variously described as bordering on folk and folk rock, Irish, and New Age. They are known for performing in various languages, including English, Latin, Gàidhlig, Mohican and most of all in their native tongue, Irish. Clannad are Moya Brennan (born Máire Ní Bhraonáin), Ciarán Brennan (born Ciarán Ó Braonáin), Pól Brennan (born Pól Ó Braonáin), Noel Duggan (born Noel Ó Dúgáin) and Pádraig Duggan (born Pádraig Ó Dúgáin). Clannad first made their mark in the folk and traditional scene in the 1970s in Ireland and Europe, they subsequently went on to bridge the gap between traditional celtic music and pop music in the 1980s and 1990s with albums such as Macalla and Anam. During their successful career they toured the world extensively and gained fans in every major territory. Lead singer Moya Brennan and her sister Enya have also enjoyed huge success as solo artists. The band won a Grammy Award in 1998 for Best New Age Album, and their record sales exceed the 15 million mark. They are also regarded as the band which, for the first time, put Irish traditional music and the Irish language on the world stage and paved the way for many other Irish artists. After ten years disbanded, the five original members of Clannad reunited on stage at the Celtic Connections Festival in February 2007 in Glasgow. They expressed their wishes to release a new studio album ...

Irish song - An Bealach Cas Geal (Cór Thaobh a' Leithid)

'An Bealach Cas Geal' (meaning 'the bright road') by the Irish Gaelic choir Cór Thaobh a' Leithid from Gweedore, Co Donegal, Ireland. Tionscamh Lugh and Angela Mc Laughlin commissioned Donal Lunny to write a piece of music as part of a project for the Errigal Arts Festival. Donal choose Seosamh Mac Griannas book 'Mo Bhealach Féin' as the basis for this commission. Taking a unique approach, Donal took passages directly from the book and wrote music to accompany Mac Griannas words. Diarr Tionscamh Lugh agus Angela Mc Lauglin ar Donal Lunny píosa ceoil a chumadh do thogra ag Féile Ealaíne Earragail. Roghnaigh Dónal leabhar Sheosamh Mhic Grianna Mo Bhealach Féin mar bhunús. Thóg Dónal píosaí ón leabhar agus scríobh sé ceol mar thionlacan dfhocail Mhic Grianna.

Joined up with Peter Adams on Saturday 26th June 2010 to knock off some munros. Revisited Ben Lui near Tyndrum which defeated me in march. This time we got all the way up the front face from the A85 side (3700 feet!!), joining the ridge just before the summit. The mist rolled in so we descended to the bealach to have our lunch and then bag the 3005 feet neighbour Beinn a' Chleibh. Then back to Bealach and return to car. 6.5 hours.
