Our name, Beat Down Boogie, came from a feature film script that we pitched to some film industry folks in 2009. The video above was a rough concept piece to show the humor and action style. In the end we had to make too many compromises in order to get the budget for the film. We decided to save the script for a day when we could make it the way it's supposed to be. Hopefully we will get the chance some day! We got a visit from stuntmen Eric, Manny and Shawn to discuss the film. While they were here we filmed a couple impromptu practice sessions. Usually we have a 3-man crew (with the lead actors helping out as well), but for more ambitious scenes we get a couple more volunteers. When we started out, the only real gear we had were the monopods, tripods, and Rick's SmallHD monitor. Learn to make breakaway dinner plates for fight scenes using plaster of paris. It's pretty safe, but try it at your own risk. Basically all you have to do is mix 1 part water with 2 parts plaster of paris and poor the mixture into a plastic mold (like a tray or large bowl). Then wait til it dries. Thanks for watching!
