[Bersih 2.0] Malaysian Lady of Liberty (English version)

This is an inspiring story of a 65 years old lady who participated in Bersih 2.0 rally. Four times being attack by tear gas canister and one time being attack by chemical-laced water cannon, still stand still in the front line. Her bravery and inspired all the participants at the scene. Read the interview with her daughter from The Malaysian Insider: www.themalaysianinsider.com Website: www.facebook.com www.facebook.com The very first "Malaysian Lady of Liberty" image in this video is Hugo Teng's work and some great random pictures from my collegues and the web. BERSIH 2.0 - Malaysians March Together

Some Words From The Editor (@McGarmott): People, it is time we change our attitude. The keyword here is ENGAGEMENT. Not demonising, not accusing, not taunting, and not making fun of people who don't agree with us -- yes, even the people who continue to support UMNO and BN, even Ibrahim Ali. The way forward is to engage each other in dialogue, using civil language, using intelligent debates and arguments -- that is, use reason. Democracy entails us talking to each other maturely, and accepting that people WILL have different points of view. Even if the other person argues with emotional rhetoric, your response, like your response during the BERSIH 2.0 rally, is to keep the temperature cool. I did not attend the rally myself, but my friends did. This video has inspired many of you (thanks for watching!). Now I hope the rally can inspire us to TALK TO EACH OTHER, NOT JUST AMONG OURSELVES. Music track taken from "John Rescued - Resolution (Soprano Soloist)" by Craig Armstrong from the original score of the film "World Trade Center". Footage sourced from other Youtube videos of the BERSIH 2.0 Rally held on 9th July 2011. Similarly, images were obtained from various online sources taken during the BERSIH 2.0 Rally.

Hi, my name is Low Weiyan, that is my real name for I have nothing to hide. Upon reading articles from different media sources as of late I am appalled at the current state of things surrounding the upcoming Bersih rally. This message goes out especially to members of the youth from all over Malaysia, the future leaders of this country. A people who have I have seen often quizzing their navigation of Malaysian society that seems ever so fragmented. I hope that you get the message I have set out to spread and share it with others. I honestly thought I could do a better job. I realized there was alot more i could have talked about or at the very least articulated myself better. However this wasn't scripted and was a spur of the moment sort of thing. I hope viewers will forgive my many spoken mistakes in this video and take the message to heart. I hope to see many of you on the 9th. Hidup Rakyat.

Bersih seeks audience with Agong, may put off rally

The Bersih 2.0 rally scheduled for July 9 hinges on the outcome of the movement's leaders audience with the Agong. Bersih 2.0 chief Ambiga Sreenevasan said the movement, which is a coalition of more than 60 NGOs, will submit a request for the audience later today. "We want to communicate our decision to His Majesty and then we will announce (our decision)," said Ambiga at a press conference today. She said that for now, the Bersih 2.0 steering committee had met last night for an emergency meeting and decided that it would "abide" by the Agong's statement issued late yesterday evening. Bersih's Ambiga receives top French award

Former Bar Council president Ambiga Sreenevasan has been bestowed France's highest award, the Chevalier de Legion d'Honneur (Knight of the Legion of Honour) for her work in human rights advocacy. In her acceptance speech at the French embassy in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, Ambiga said the award was not for her, but for all civil society. "This honour belongs to the civil society in Malaysia. I think it is important to appreciate all the work civil society has been doing." Ambiga also gave special mention to the Bar Council that she says has long fought against the Internal Security Act, since the time when it was a "lone voice" on the issue. Man in Bersih 2.0 picture fiasco reveals himself

The man behind the image of an alleged 'violent protester' that was splashed on the front pages of the country's major newspapers after the Bersih 2.0 rally on July 9 has stepped forward. Speaking at a PAS ceramah in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, Abdul Razak Endut said that the alleged knife he was holding was a Malaysian flag and he was not throwing rocks at police. "When the FRU fired tear gas, I saw the wind blowing towards the demonstrators... I picked up the canister and tossed it to a grass field with the hope that the demonstrators would be safe," said Abdul Razak. MCMC quizzes photographer on Bersih shot

The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission has questioned a Suara Keadilan photographer on the pictures she took during the Bersih 2.0 rally. Yusriah Yusof was questioned for close to an hour over a photograph of Anwar Ibrahim's bodyguard Fayyadh Afiq Albakqry's bloodied face, resulting from a tear gas canister hit during the rally crackdown at the KL Sentral underpass. She was accompanied by lawyer Fadiah Nadwa Fikri, who charged that it was an attempt to harass media personnel for reporting police abuses that occurred on July 9. "This is the kind of intimidation and harassment that is not going to stop, they are trying to suppress facts and truth over what is happening in Malaysia," Fadiah said. Bersih 2.0, weapons link 'questionable'

Supporters of the impending Bersih 2.0 rally today filed two police reports against top police officers in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor for allegedly linking the movement for free and fair elections with a seizure of weapons yesterday. The police reports were filed against Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Amar Singh and Selangor police chief Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah, for insinuating that the raid on the weapons cache was linked to the peaceful demonstration planned for July 9. 'Uncle Bersih' alleges nepotism by S'wak CM

Sarawak activist Hii Tiong Huat, who was arrested a fortnight ago for his pro-Bersih 2.0 stunt in Kuala Lumpur, has turned his sights on the state's chief minister, Abdul Taib Mahmud. Hii is questioning the lease of state land to Taib's brother under allegedly murky circumstances that he even he cannot fully trace. He claimed that the land was the site of a former airfield, and was initially used from 1997 by Sarawak United People Party to set up the United College Sarawak. Hii said that, in 2004, the land was mysteriously leased out to Esprit Wealth Sdn Bhd in which Taib's brother, Mohammad Tufail Mahmud, is the major stakeholder.
