We hide ourselves in many ways. On YouTube, though some people vlog frequently, most vlog only rarely, or do sketches, or make text-only videos, or never make videos at all. In the "real world" too we conceal ourselves in other ways. Something I've been thinking about as I ponder my place on YouTube. This is an abstract piece that is a metaphor for the ways we hide ourselves. --- Technical Info: Voxinabox made a cool video of the Moon in which the camera's automatic features created interesting visual effects: youtube.com In the comments we discussed camera settings, and he suggested I "have a go." As a result, I took some shots of the Moon during the February 2008 lunar eclipse, to add to some shots I'd taken last summer for practice and for stock footage. All shots are from a tripod-mounted camera in full manual mode--focus, exposure (iris and shutter speed), and white balance--to avoid picture variations caused by the auto systems hunting for the right settings. Shot 1 - Misty Eclipse (title sequence) 1x real time Intentionally over-exposed to reveal thin clouds passing by. Wind buffets the camera a little--the camera strap probably wasn't secured. 2008-02-20 Mist effect over title done in LiveType. Shot 2 - Leaves 12x real time 50% saturation to whiten Moon 2x enlargment 4-frame blending to reduce image noise, with 1 pixel offsets to anti-alias 2007-08-27 ~10:07 PM Shot 3 - Lunar Eclipse, entering totality 12x real time Two shots spliced together 125% Red and 106 ...
