www.vernissage.tv | Lee Yong-baek represents Korea at the 54th International Art Exhibition -- La Biennale di Venezia. The Korean pavilion showcases works in sculpture, video, photography, and painting by the Korean artist. Lee Yong-baek is known for using and combining a broad variety of mediums and technologies. Lee Yong-baek's exhibition in Venice is titled The Love Is Gone but the Scar Will Heal. Even before entering the pavilion, the visitor hears a deafening noise of shattering glass from the inside of the building. The sound belongs to Lee Yong-baek's work Broken Mirror, showing a mirror that seems to break suddenly after being hit by a bullet. Also on display are the works Pieta Self-hatred, Pieta: Self-death, Plastic Fish, In Between Jesus and Buddha, and the popular work Angel Soldier. Angel Soldier appears to be a still image filled with bright flowers. A closer look reveals a soldier creeping along in the background, camouflaged by the multi-colored flowers in the foreground. Christoph Schlingensief, German Pavilion at Venice Biennale

www.vernissage.tv | The Venice Biennale's Golden Lion for Best National Participation was given to Germany this year for Christoph Schliengensief's multi-disciplinary practice "that is intense, committed, and possesses a strong personal vision." The jury also praised the curatorial work of Susanne Gaensheimer. The Jury of the 54th International Art Exhibition of la Biennale di Venezia was comprised of Hassan Khan (President, Egypt), Carol Yinghua Lu (China), Letizia Ragaglia (Italy), Christine Macel (France) and John Waters (USA). The exhibition has been curated by Susanne Gaensheimer and focuses on existing theatrical productions and films by Christoph Schlingensief, who died of lung cancer in late August 2010. Since his death, Susanne Gaensheimer and Aino Laberenz (Schlingensief's wife and closest collaborator for many years) have decided to not exhibit Christoph Schlingensief's sketches and proposals for the German Pavilion, but rather to show existing works. In collaboration with a circle of Schlingensief's closest collaborators and confidants including Carl Hegemann, Thomas Goerge, Voxi Bärenklau, Heta Multanen, and Frieder Schlaich, and drawing on extensive conversations with Chris Dercon, Alexander Kluge, and Matthias Lilienthal, a concept for the German Pavilion at the 54th Venice Biennale was developed. In the main hall of the German Pavilion the stage of the Fluxus oratorio A Church of Fear vs. the Alien Within is presented. This work was conceived for the 2008 ...

www.vernissage.tv | The French Pavilion at the 54th International Art Exhibition -- La Biennale di Venezia, curated by Jean-Hubert Martin, presents a new installation by French artist Christian Boltanski. The installation, titled "Chance", deals with the themes that are characteristic for Boltanski's work chance, luck and misfortune. In the main room Christian Boltanski installed a large scaffold with a oversize film strip that shows the faces of babies shortly after their birth. The film strip runs at high speed until it randomly stops and picks one of these babies, displayed on an lcd screen. In each of the two side rooms, a large digital clock counts up the world's population. Christian Boltanski: Chance / French Pavilion, Venice Biennale 2011. Preview, June 2, 2011. Mike Nelson, British Pavilion, Venice Biennale 2011

www.vernissage.tv | For the Venice Biennale 2011, Mike Nelson created a large-scale installation titled "I, Impostor" in the British Pavilion in the Giardini. Walk-through. Mike Nelson's work "I, Impostor" is probably one of the most complex and costly presentations at the 54th International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia in Venice, Italy. The new work of the British installation artist Mike Nelson is a large-scale sculptural installation that leads the visitor through a dark labyrinth-like structure. Mike Nelson has already exhibited in Venice, his work "The Deliverance and the Patience" was shown as part of the collateral program at the 49th edition of the Venice Biennale in 2001. For his exhibition at the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2011, Mike Nelson refers to the work "Magazin Büyük Valide Han" that he created for the 8th International Istanbul Biennial in 2003. Nelson has relocated and re-worked this earlier installation for Venice, thus creating a link between the two cities Istanbul and Venice, both former great mercantile centers of the east-west/west-east axes. Since 1938 the British Council has been responsible for the British Pavilion in Venice. Commissioner for the British Pavilion 2011 is Andrea Rose, the Curator is Richard Riley. Markus Schinwald - Austrian Pavilion Biennale di Venezia 2011

Markus Schinwald represents Austria at the 54th Biennale di Venezia. In the framework of Bice Curiger's general theme ILLUMInations, he negotiates the representation and manipulation of space, time, light, and shadow. He not only alters our experience of space through a moment of disturbance, but also allows the pavilion's architecture and history to stand and makes it his subject—with all its ruptures, rifts, and blemishes.

SWEET HOME CHICAGO - David Honeyboy Edwards - Biennale di Venezia 2009

SWEET HOME CHICAGO - David Honeyboy Edwards - Biennale di Venezia 3/10/2009 David "Honeyboy" Edwards (born June 28, 1915, Shaw, Mississippi, United States) is a Grammy Award-winning Delta blues guitarist and singer from the American South. As of August, 2009, Honeyboy Edwards, at age 94, and his close friend, Pinetop Perkins (age 96) are the oldest and arguably, the last Delta blues players still touring the United States remaining from the last century. Edwards was a friend to the legendary musician Robert Johnson and claims he was present on the fateful night Johnson drank the poisoned whiskey that took his life. Even though Johnson is usually credited with writing "Sweet Home Chicago," Honeyboy's website claims that it was Honeyboy who wrote the famous blues song.
