"Be-Bop-A-Lula" arrangement from Cliff Richard & The Drifters (1959). The version from Big Jeff and The Hurricane Rollers was recorded live in December 1975 Line-up: Jef van den Akker aka,. Big Jeff (voc., sax.),Bart Strik (lead gt.), Jan vd Boom (rhythm gt.), Johan Damen (bass gt.) and Tim Schouten (drums). Bart Strik aka" The Jazzmaster King" was born on December 17, 1945, in Vught (Netherlands) and he sadly passed away on July 26, 1993 in 's-Hertogenbosch. At age 14 he already played in his first rock 'n' roll band "The Jet Black Robbers". Bart was an admirer of Indo-Rock guitarist Robbie Boekholt, who played a lot around Vught en 's-Hertogenbosch with his band "The Hap-Cats". Robbie was also the composer of the famous Indo-Rock hit "Once", released by "The Hurricane Rollers" on Philips in 1959. Bart was one of the first guitarists who learned to play "Once", and he also mastered Robbie's Hap-Cats arrangements "Dardanella" and "Raindrops". It didn't take long before Robbie noticed that young Bart was playing his songs pretty darn well, and when they met in 1962, Robbie gave Bart permission to use the name "Hurricane Rollers" for his own band. The original Rollers had split up by then and the members were playing in "Oety & The Real Rockers", "The Crazy Strangers" and "The Strangers". Robbie himself was playing with his own Hap-Cats again. Virtually every major session player in Nashville was a member of The Radio Playboys at one time or another. Infact, the great Grady Martin started out playing fiddle for Big Jeff in the early days. But most importantly, Big Jeff recorded some of the most rockingest, swinginest toe tappin' music ever to come out of Tennessee. It's records like this that helped pave the way for rock'n'roll. Great stuff !
