16-bit ALU in minecraft
This is the first part of a planned 16-bit computer that will run entirely in minecraft. That computer will be "Hack" compatible, which is to say that it'll run code meant for the Hack machine described in The Elements of Computing Systems (a fantastic book that you should look up if you are at all interested in how computers work. Its website is www.idc.ac.il ). Some more info: The design was drawn up in a program called Redstone Simulator (does what it says on the tin), which was written by Baezon on the Minecraft Forums www.minecraftforum.net MCEdit ( minecraftforums.net ) was used to help clear off space and import the design into minecraft. Hours of experimenting with prototypes, modifications to the design, and debugging took place in the game itself, however. This project is far from over. Memory, here I come...

Bits and Bytes, episode 1 - Getting Started, part 1
Bits and Bytes was a Canadian television series, produced by TVOntario in 1983. It starred Luba Goy as the instructor, and Billy Van as the student. From Wikipedia - The original series featured an unusual presentation format whereby Luba Goy as the instructor would address Billy Van through a remote video link. The video link would appear to Luba who was seated in an office on a projection screen in front of her. DUO ADEPT: An 8-bit Homebrew Computer
The DUO Adept is an 8-bit homebrew TTL CPU + GPU I have designed and built. As a challenge I used only basic kinds of logic chips; no microcontroller or video card. It has a black and white TV monitor and keyboard, and is generally awesome! A 16-Bit Program Counter, Another 16 Bits of Memory, And One Dead Pig.
Unfortunate things about this video: No soothing music by C418. Less grandiose displays of simple addition. The horrific slaughter of a defenseless animal. Fortunate things about this video: I'm almost done with the CPU parts! The finished Program Counter seems to be acting appropriately, but like I said, I'm worried about those shortcuts coming back to haunt me later (perhaps around the Halloween update?) In any case, as soon as I can hook up the logic necessary to interpret a Hack computer's opcodes, the CPU will be done, and I can start making stacks and stacks and stacks of RAM and perhaps figure out a better way to do I/O.
