Britain seen in colour for the first time was heralded as a great technical advance for the cinema audience - now we can view a much improved image, but one which still stays true to the principles of the colour process. The rather haphazard journey from Land's End to John O'Groats creates a series of moving picture postcards. Look out for shots containing the component colours - red and blue-green - such as when a little girl in a red coat and hat walks among peacocks in the grounds of a castle, and three girls with red curly hair pose by the sea at Torquay. The car is a Vauxhall D-type - considered a sporty model at the time. A long-distance journey by car was a relatively new concept, with none of the amenities en route now taken for granted. The visit to a petrol station shows smoking on the forecourt: no health and safety issues back then! The travelogue ends with a series of recognisable London landmarks. New Bombardier Flexity 2 Tram Launch in Blackpool
Today marks a milestone in the regeneration of Blackpool's tramway as the new FLEXITY 2 model, which will be on the tram tracks by Easter, was launched. Bombardier hosted the global launch of the BOMBARDIER FLEXITY 2 tram at the enw tram depot in Blackpool. Blackpool Council and Lancashire County Council purchased the world's most advanced tram technology from Bombardier to revitalize Britain's most traditional tram system and will operate 16 new, ultra-modern FLEXITY 2 vehicles on the Blackpool and Fleetwood tramway from Easter 2012. The FLEXITY 2 tram combines 'the best of the best' in global tram technology and Bombardier's experience in delivering more than 3500 trams and light rail vehicles to around 100 cities in more than 20 countries. FLEXITY 2 is based on the very successful BOMBARDIER FLEXITY family of light rail vehicles and combines proven technology with continuous improvement and innovation.

I didn't really plan on making a video this year, as I've been extremely busy as a film student and freelance DP the last year. However, as I couldn't resist grabbing a few shots on my Canon 7D (a stills camera that also has a decent video feature if you're a talented DP) while I was there. When I decided I would do a video, I also decided to keep it short and sweet, so there's none of that 10-minute-documentary-thingy I did the previous years. To see exactly what I made, you'll just have to watch it. As I didn't have a lot of footage, I used every last bit of good footage that was to be found on my CF cards when I got home. The video was edited this weekend, and the music selection derived from the flight to the UK. I was listening to MA's newest album, Heligoland, and I figured "I want to make a video to this song some day", and I was sold. Ah well. Thoughts, thoughts, thoughts. Please, do enjoy yourself. Blackpool Tramway
The Blackpool tramway runs from Blackpool to Fleetwood on the Fylde Coast in Lancashire, England, and is the only surviving first-generation tramway in the United Kingdom. The tramway dates back to 1885 and is one of the oldest electric tramways in the world. It is run by Blackpool Transport (BTS) as part of the Metro Coastlines network, owned by Blackpool Borough Council. The tramway runs for 11 miles (18 km) and carries 6500000 passengers each year. It is also one of only a few operational tramways in the world that operate using double-deck tram systems, others including the Hong Kong Tramways system and Alexandria Tram in Egypt.
