Who is Scott Blakey?

An amazing true story... With a Masters in Biology and a love of cannabis, Scott Blakey's (aka Shantibaba) track record is world class. Co-founder of the Greenhouse Seed Company, where he developed the "White" line: White Widow, White Rhino, White Shark, etc. His undoubted ability and breeding expertise made the Greenhouse Seeds Company what it is today. In 1999 Scott and Howard Marks decided to team up and start their own Seedbank. The Mr Nice Seedsbank was established in Switzerland following the Dutch governments changing of the law in Holland which made professional, above-board indoor breeding illegal. Scott was one of the first of the seed breeders to make this move. His company, Gene Bank Technology, had a $2m contract with the Body Shop to supply cannabis essential oil for their hemp cosmetics and also produced the vital ingredients for a top brand of hemp beer. At the beginning of 2003 Scott Blakey was in jail in Switzerland serving time for developing more potent cultivars (a variety of a plant developed from a natural species and maintained under cultivation) of cannabis. On the 3rd of October Shantibaba was freed after serving 14 months in jail for growing cannabis within Swiss borders. Jazz Icons: Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers Preview

The Jazz Icons: Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers DVD, released Sept. 26, 2006, features what many consider to be one of the finest line-ups in the history of jazz—Art Blakey (Drums), Bobby Timmons (Piano), Jymie Merritt (Bass), Benny Golson (Sax) and the legendary trumpet player, Lee Morgan. drumsolo Elvin Jones:Art Blakey.mov

Drumsolo Jones Elvin/Art Blakey 1968 Elvin Jones and Art Blakey, two of the most prominent drummers in the bebop idiom are doing a drum solo during a performance as part of the Newport Jazz Festival's touring group in Rotterdam in 1968 Elvin Ray Jones (1927 -- 2004) was a jazz drummer. Two of Jones' brothers were also jazz musicians: Hank (piano), and Thad (trumpet/flugelhorn). Elvin began playing professionally in the 1940s, and eventually he went on to play with artists such as Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, and Wardell Gray. In 1955 he found work in New York, joining Charles Mingus's band, In 1960, he joined with the classic John Coltrane Quartet, which also included bassist Jimmy Garrison and pianist McCoy Tyner. Jones and Coltrane often played extended duet passages, both giving and taking energy through their instruments. This band is widely considered to have redefined "swing" (the rhythmic feel of jazz) in much the same way that Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker et al did during earlier stages of jazz's development. After leaving the Coltrane group in 1966, Jones played with Duke Ellington, and eventually formed his own touring group. Jazz Machine, normally a quintet, continued in the same musical direction. His sense of timing, polyrhythms, dynamics, timbre, and legato phrasing - as well as the sheer mass of sound he produced - brought the drumset to the fore. Jones was touted by Life Magazine as "the world's greatest rhythmic drummer", and his free-flowing style was ...

Novation Dicer - Blakey Performs

www.hollywooddj.com Serato Scratch Live has a new partner: The Novation Dicer. Developed with Serato, this palm-sized cue point and looping controller has been designed to fit exactly where you need it: on your turntables, CDJs, mixer or laptop. Dicer always ships in pairs - one for each side. Plug Dicer in, slot it on your turntable/CDJ, and you can instantly set cue points and use them to trigger 'Hot Cues'. Or, flip Dicer into 'Auto-Loop' or 'Loop Roll' modes, to trigger loops, or 'roll' sections of the track to create climaxes, drops and glitchy breaks. Each 'mode' illuminates Dicer's pads a different colour, so you can instantly see what mode the pads in, even in dark clubs and venues. The forthcoming Scratch Live 2.1 update will automatically map the Dicer to these functions and provide full LED feedback - red for Hot Cues, green for Loop Roll, and amber for Auto-Loop. Dicer can control all cue-point and looping functions in the current version of Serato Scratch Live 2.0. This requires you to simply 'learn' cue-point and looping to Dicer's pads, using Scratch Live's MIDI-learn function. The public beta of Scratch Live 2.1 is available now. Dicer's buttons can also 'learn' other software functions. So, you can assign different FX to the pads, or trigger samples over the top of your mix, or even browse tracks in your iTunes library! Dicer was designed by Novation in collaboration with Ean Golden - DJ and curator of DJ Tech Tools. Ean came up with the concept of a ...

Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers ft. Freddie Hubbard - Lester Left Town

Freddie Hubbard, the Grammy-winning jazz musician whose blazing virtuosity influenced a generation of trumpet players and who collaborated with such greats as Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins, died Monday, a month after suffering a heart attack. He was 70. A towering figure in jazz circles, Hubbard played on hundreds of recordings in a career dating to 1958, the year he arrived in New York from his hometown Indianapolis, where he had studied at the Arthur Jordan Conservatory of Music and with the Indianapolis Symphony. Soon he had hooked up with such jazz legends as Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Cannonball Adderley and Coltrane and the rest is history. RIP Freddie, you will not be forgotten.
