How governments have tried to block Tor Iran blocked Tor handshakes using Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) in January 2011 and September 2011. Bluecoat tested out a Tor handshake filter in Syria in June 2011. China has been harvesting and blocking IP addresses for both public Tor relays and private Tor bridges for years. Roger Dingledine and Jacob Appelbaum will talk about how exactly these governments are doing the blocking, both in terms of what signatures they filter in Tor (and how we've gotten around the blocking in each case), and what technologies they use to deploy the filters -- including the use of Western technology to operate the surveillance and censorship infrastructure in Tunisia (Smartfilter), Syria (Bluecoat), and other countries. We'll cover what we've learned about the mindset of the censor operators (who in many cases don't want to block Tor because they use it!), and how we can measure and track the wide-scale censorship in these countries. Last, we'll explain Tor's development plans to get ahead of the address harvesting and handshake DPI arms races. As it turns out the ability for partners to block their content from being used by others is not something YouTube partners can do. First lets define our terms. www.youtube.com is a Branded Channel. In other words they actually pay YouTube for the right to be here. You can learn more about what a Branded Channel is here www.youtube.com However NoMoreC2 is correct in his claim of hypocrisy on YouTube's part when it comes to removing videos for showing too much skin while at the same time taking money from Playboy. Now some partners are enrolled into what is called the Content ID or Content Management System. You can learn about the program from YouTube employee Margaret Stewart here: www.youtube.com Here is the application page for the Content ID program www.youtube.com Once approved you can either track, monetize, or block content uploaded to YouTube. You can also block content being shown to certain countries. Now the one thing I disagree with here is if someone wishes to claim a video uploaded by someone else and choses to monetize it. The ad revenue is not shared with the person who made the video. That is why in most cases I fill out the dispute form for the content ID match. Via The Huffington Post: "A day before Congress weighs an amendment to end indefinite military detentions in the US, a federal judge Wednesday ruled the law that allows the practice unconstitutional. Saying the measure has "chilling impact on First Amendment rights," US District Judge Katherine Forrest, of New York's Eastern District, found that a group of reporters and activists who brought the lawsuit had no way of knowing whether they could be subjected to it. That makes it an unconstitutional infringement on the First Amendment's free speech right and the Fifth Amendment's right to due process, Forrest said in a written opinion.
