Chantilly Lace The Big Bopper Baldy Holly

Chantilly Lace" is the name of a rock and roll song, written and originally performed by The Big Bopper (JP Richardson) in 1958. Originally cut for Pappy Daily's D label, Mercury bought the recording and released it in the summer of 1958; what ensued was that the song gained popularity (mostly on pop, with regional country music appeal). A 1972 version by Jerry Lee Lewis was a No. 1 hit on the Billboard magazine Hot Country Singles chart and top forty pop hit both in the US and the UK. On our tongue- in- cheek version, Phil is trying out his lovely new Gretsch guitar

Big Bopper - Hello Baby - You Know What I Like! BCD17109

Big Bopper - Hello Baby - You Know What I Like! A wiggle in her walk and a giggle in her talk - BCD 17109 The ultimate tribute to the artist who died alongside Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens on 'The Day The Music Died'! Includes the all-time smash hit Chantilly Lace! Plus the Big Bopper's original version of the hit he wrote for George Jones, White Lightning Also includes ultra-rare recordings by the Big Bopper as well as tribute records and sequels by Eddie Cochran, rockabilly legend Ray Campi, and Jayne Mansfield (yes, THAT Jayne Mansfield) When the Big Bopper died in the plane crash that took the lives of Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens, he'd scored just two hits, but his tragic death on 'The Day The Music Died' ensured his immortality. And it turns out he had a far more interesting career than most one or two hit wonders. For one thing, he wrote several other hits. His original version of George Jones' #1 country hit White Lightning is included here (he also wrote but never recorded Johnny Preston's #1 pop hit Running Bear). Sadly, he never saw either song top the charts. But this generously full CD includes a lot of Bopper, starting with all known recordings: his unissued-atthe- time first recording from 1954, his fabulously rare early rock 'n' roll singles for Mercury, his original recording of Chantilly Lace and the follow-up, and his original LP. But there's more: Big Bopper sequels and tributes include Eddie Cochran's Three Stars, Ray Campi's The Man I Met (A ...

The Big Bopper - Chantilly Lace 1958 Jiles Perry "JP" Richardson, Jr

Jiles Perry "JP" Richardson, Jr. (October 24, 1930 -- February 3, 1959) also commonly known as The Big Bopper, was an American disc jockey, singer, and songwriter whose big voice and exuberant personality made him an early rock and roll star. He is best known for his recording of "Chantilly Lace". On February 3, 1959, a day that has become known as The Day the Music Died by Don McLean, in his song "American Pie", Richardson was killed in a plane crash in Iowa, along with Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens. Richardson was born in Sabine Pass, Texas, the oldest son of Jiles Perry Richardson, Sr. and his wife Elise (Stalsby) Richardson. With the success of "Chantilly Lace", Richardson took time off from KTRM radio and joined Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and Dion and the Belmonts for a "Winter Dance Party" tour. On the eleventh night of the tour, Holly chartered an airplane to fly them to the next show in Moorhead, Minnesota. The musicians had been traveling by bus for over a week, and it had already broken down once. They were tired, they had not been paid yet and all of their clothes were dirty. With the airplane, Holly could arrive early, do everyone's laundry and get some rest. 21-year old pilot Roger Peterson had agreed to take the singers to Fargo, North Dakota, where the airport serves the cities of Moorhead and Fargo. A snowstorm was inbound, and the pilot was fatigued from a 17-hour workday, but agreed to fly the trip. The musicians packed up their instruments and ...

50 Winters Later: Big Bopper Jr - 'Chantilly Lace'

At the 50 Winters Later Concert held at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake Iowa on Feb. 2 2009, it was exactly 50 years to the day of the last concert of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper before they died in a plane crash that night. The Big Bopper's son, JP Richardson, Jr., performed some of his father's hits. This clip is an emotional one, as he finally gets to take home his father's briefcase from the Surf Ballroom, five decades to the day later, as he performs "Chantilly Lace".

Buddy Holly Ritchie Valens The Big Bopper

Charles Hardin Holley (7th September 1936 - 3rd February 1959) known professionally as Buddy Holly, was an American singer-songwriter and a pioneer of rock and roll. Ritchie Valens (Ricardo Esteban Valenzuela Reyes; 13th May 1941 - 3rd February 1959) was a Mexican-American singer, songwriter and guitarist. Jiles Perry "JP" Richardson, Jr. (24th October 1930 - 3rd February 1959) commonly known as The Big Bopper, was an American disc jockey, singer, and songwriter whose big voice and exuberant personality made him an early rock and roll star. LA Boppers: Funk It Out

Produced by Augie Johnson, who also founded the group, The LA Boppers started out as the backup band for Side Effect (another great group under Wayne Henderson's production wings), which Augie also was an integral part of. La Boppers first started recording in their own name in 1978 and by 1980, on this LP, Miki Howard contributes vocals. Miki sang with Side Effect too and shows her incredible power vocal chords on Side Effect's "After the Rain", recorded the same year as this LA Boppers record. Anyway, here's "Funk It Out" from 1980, undoubtedly the best track the LA Boppers ever cut. Bopper Vance "Mad Dog" Tenort's MySpace Page: www.myspace.com
