During the 2011 Paris Air Show's first public day, Airbus' 21st century flagship A380 took to the skies above Le Bourget Airport for a high-profile flight demonstration. Reflecting Airbus' new "Love A380" campaign, the aircraft includes a specially-created graphic with a heart-shaped "3" in A380 designation and the "Love at first flight" tagline.

Airbus' recruiting campaign for new, young talent took on a whole new dimension today as more than 180 current employees performed the first-ever flashmob at the Paris Air Show. Gathering in front of the A380 at Le Bourget Airport's static display area, the volunteer Airbus staff danced to the hit song: "Higher" by American singer-songwriter Taio Cruz. This music was chosen for the refrain: "It's taking me higher off the ground," to underscore the varied and exciting career opportunities offered by Airbus employment. Normandie Niemen Yakovlev Yak 3 The Yakovlev Yak-3 (Russian language: Як-3) was a World War II Soviet fighter aircraft. Robust and easy to maintain, was much liked by pilots and ground crew alike. It was one of the smallest and lightest major combat fighters fielded by any combatant during the war, and its high power-to-weight ratio gave it excellent performance. It proved a formidable dogfighter. Marcel Albert, the official top-scoring World War II French ace that flew the Yak in USSR with the Normandie-Niémen Group, regarded it a superior aircraft to the P-51D Mustang and to the Supermarine Spitfire. After the war ended, it flew with the Czech and Polish Air Forces. The A380 test aircraft MSN4 landed back in Paris Le Bourget at 09:37 AM local time, showing its striking new "love at first flight" heart logo. The aircraft first arrived at Le Bourget on Sunday, but damaged a wing tip during a taxi incident on its way to the static display area. It returned to Toulouse for repairs that were performed by a talented and dedicated Airbus team. Efforts paid off with the A380's successful return to the show. Airbus top management congratulate the Airbus teams who worked hard to repair the A380 which is now back to Le Bourget airshow and which will fly over until the end of the week.

Mig-29 crash at Paris Air Show Le Bourget 1989
On the opening day (8th June 1989) Mikoyan test pilot Anatoliy Kvochur was making a demonstration flight in the single-seater Mig-29 '303' Blue. During the high-alpha/low-speed pass at 160m (525ft) that was to conclude the Fulcrum's aerobatic display, the starborad engine surged, belching a sheet of flame. Kvochur immediately selected full afterburner for the working engine; however at 180km/h (111mph) he had insufficient rudder and ailereon authority to counter the trust asymmetry and the result was inevitably an irrecoverable departure. The engine failed at 13hrs 44mins 57sec; the stricken fighter immediately yawed and rolled to starboard, the nose "falling through" until the aircraft entered a vertical dive at 13:45:01. 2.5 seconds later Kvochur ejected at 92m (302ft) after making sure that the aircraft would not hit the spectators. At 13:45:05 the fighter hit the ground beside the runway erupting into a fireball. The pilot landed a mere 30m (98ft) from the wreckage, the ejection seat impacted right next to him. To give a credit where credit is due, the airport's rescue & firefighting team was on the scene 55 seconds after the crash. Kvochur was rushed to hospital, but was released the same day with nothing worse than bruises and a cut above his right eyebrow from the oxygen mask. Indeed he had been extremely lucky as he had ejected oustide the seat's operating envelope, not to mention the proximity of the fireballs and the falling ejection seat. In June 1999 the T10PMK-1 arrived at Paris-Le Bourget where it was to participate in the 43rd Paris airshow Le Bourget. Pilot Vyacheslav Aver'yanov and WSO Vladimir Shendrik made 3 demonstration flights and the Su-30MKI qualified for the flying display. Both aviation experts and "plain Joe public" visitors were looking forward to see the latest Sukhoi fighter flying at the show. On 12th June 1999 Su-30MKI "01" Blue crashed during a training flight prior to the grand opening. While demonstrating a controlled spin, which was a part of the displaying programme, Aver'yanov initiated recovery too late, making one turn too many. As it pulled out of the dive, the fighter struck the ground in a tail-down altitude; the next moment it was climbing away, but with the starboard-engine's jetpipe broken by the impact and flames belching from the port-engine due to a ruptured fuel line. The damaged engine's nozzle was pointing 30 dregrees up, causing an uncontrollable pitch up. As Su-30MKI stood on its tail and the nose started falling through, Aver'yanov and Shendrik ejected. Seconds later the fighter pancaked out, beside the runway, and exploded - an eerie reminiscent of Anatoliy Kvochur's accident in a Mig-29 at the 1989 Paris Airshow The crew was rushed to a hospital, but it was discharged the following day, as neither Aver'yanov nor Shendrik had suffered any injuries.
