Dopesheet: Lithuanian government confirmed legislative package that regulates construction of the new nuclear power plant in Visaginas. Next week the package will be submitted to the Lithuanian parliament - Seimas. The government assures that both projects will be competetive and guarantee lower electricity and gas prices. A strategic investor Hitachi is planning to build a 1300 megawatts advanced boiling water reactor (ABWR) by 2020. According to minister of energy, Lithuania will govern 38 per cent shares of the Visaginas nuclear platn. Estonia will have 22 percent shares, Latvia - 20 percent and Hitachi - 20 percent. The Ministry of Finance calculates that the cost of the project will be about 5 milliards euros. Ministry claims that the risk of the project should be manageable and it will not pose a threat to the economy. Some Lithuanian analytics fear that the project will be in danger after elections. If different parties will win, the national energetic strategy might change. Part of society disagree with nuclear plans. According to "Green Policy Institute", there are deep concerns about safety of nuclear reactors after disaster in Fukushima. If Seimas will approve a legislative package then in june a company that will implement the project will be established. A construction will start in 2015.
