Another massive winter swell hit Sydney's coast over the last week generating monster sized waves putting on an impressive display of power and beauty along the coastline. People spend hours and hours perched atop the cliffs at Bronte (pronounced Bron-tee) marvelling at the sheer power of the waves crashing to shore whilst observing surfers taking on the big swells. What do people think about as they look out onto the huge swells rolling in and crashing up against the shore? Always wondered.... and how therapeutic it is for so many people. Charlotte Bronte's Sunday School Bible


An excerpt from BBC' s "Antiques Roadshow" where a gentleman presents an old bible that the antiques expert estimates it could have belonged to Charlotte Bronte, as the notes inside seem to look like written in her rare handwriting and he believes it to be genuine. The gentleman's grandfather had bought it in the 1940s, for what was then the princely sum on £50, and is told that now it is worth between £15000 and £25000. Imagine how interesting her notes may prove to be. A thousand thanks to Jacqui for providing me this video.

The Emily Brontë poem "November 1837" set to music and sung by Janet Jones


"November 1837" is a haunting and beautiful poem, about the wild moors, written by Emily Brontë when she was 19 years old. The CD "A Fresh Wind Waves" is a re-mastered version (2011) of a Janet Jones 1976 EP. The mood of the poems has been further enhanced by the addition of the cello. The CD has 5 Emily Brontë poems set to music by Janet Jones and so beautifully sung by her. It is available for purchase from the Brontë Parsonage Museum shop, Haworth and from Janet's website which will be up and running from 8am on Saturday 24 September 2011. The moors just outside Haworth, near the Bronte Parsonage


These heather-flecked moors are a short walk from the Bronte Parsonage, which itself is very close to Haworth. By mid October, when I shot this, the heather had largely turned from purple to brown. Emily would have walked here, as child, teenager and adult; this area inspired some if not all of her nature-mystic poetry, and, of course Wuthering Heights, her novel. Date clip was shot: 13th October 2007. There was drizzle in the air - hence the misty look to the moors. Note: the average age of death in Haworth in the Brontes' time was 25.8 years. 41% of the population died before age 6.

The Reverend Patrick Brontë pens an informative letter to, Mrs. Gaskell, the first biographer of his world-famous writer daughter the peerless prose-stylist Charlotte. Since, at Mr. Nicholls' request and mine, you have kindly consented to give a brief account of my Daughter Charlotte's life, I will state a few facts, which, as her biographer, you might wish to know. For the gratification of those who might be desirous of knowing anything of me - I will, in as few words as I can, gratify their curiosity. My father's name, was Hugh Brontë - He was a native of the South of Ireland, and was left an orphan at an early age - It was said that he was of an Ancient Family. Whether this was, or was not so, I never gave myself the trouble to inquire, since his lot in life, as well as mine, depended, under providence, not on family decent, but our own exertions. He came to the North of Ireland, and made an early, but suitable marriage. His pecuniary means were small - but renting a few acres of land, He and my mother, by dint of application, and industry, managed to bring up a family of ten Children, in a respectable manner. I shew'd an early fondness for books, and continued at school for several years - At the age of sixteen, knowing that my Father could afford me no pecuniary aid I began to think of doing something for myself - I therefore opened a public school - and in this line, I continued five or six years ; I was then a Tutor in a gentleman's Family - From which situation I <b>...</b>
