Protesters started marching up the pedestrian walk way over the bridge while others tried to take the traffic lane. For a few minutes officers held the line and then they turned around and led the way up the traffic lane on the Brooklyn Bridge. From what I saw no police told any of the protesters to leave until they created a barricade in front of the march about halfway through the bridge. They then pulled vans and buses up to the back of the group and started arresting everyone. In total over 700 people were arrested.

About 700 people from the Occupy Wall Street protest movement, including child have been arrested on New York City's Brooklyn Bridge. Those arrested were part of a larger group crossing the bridge from Manhattan, where they have been camped out near Wall Street for two weeks. The New York City police department say that they began arresting people because they had spilled from the pedestrian section of the bridge onto the roadway and were blocking traffic. Protesters claim they were led onto the road by police and essentially trapped so they could be arrested. The loosely-organised group is protesting against corporate greed. They say they are defending 99% of the US population against the wealthiest 1%. On Wednesday October 5,NYPD did another brutality again ,hit protesters and media with baton and pepper spray. JP Morgan Funded NYPD Mass Arrests Over 700 Peaceful Occupy Wall Street Protesters The NYPD has arrested over 700 protesters who were occupying the Brooklyn Bridge in what could very well be a defining moment in the battle for freedom and liberty in America. The police apparently corralled the protesters(depending on whose story you believe) onto the Brooklyn Bridge and then started their arrests of American citizens protesting the very banks that have destroyed this country from within. The NYPD is essentially doing the dirty work for the banks, which makes complete sense when you consider the fact that JP Morgan actually FUNDS The New York City Police Department. That's right, the very police department that has been filmed numerous times beating and macing the Occupy Wall Street protesters has received a considerable amount of money from the very banks that the protesters are targeting! 700 Arrested on Brooklyn Bridge as Occupy Wall Street Enters Third Week, Protests Grows Nationwide

www.DemocracyNow.org - The "Occupy Wall Street" protests in the financial district took a dramatic turn on Saturday when protesters tried to march across the Brooklyn Bridge. When police arrested 700 of the demonstrators, the event quickly turned into one of the largest arrests of non-violent protesters in recent history. Some protesters claim police lured them onto oncoming traffic on the bridge's roadway; others said they did not hear instructions from police telling them to use the pedestrian walkway. Meanwhile, similar "Occupation" protests have spread to other cities, including Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles, where hundreds of protesters are now camped out in front of City Hall. We host a roundtable discussion with Marisa Holmes, an organizer with the main organizing group of Occupy Wall Street, called the General Assembly, Marina Sitrin, an attorney who is part of Occupy Wall Street's legal working group, and Laurie Penny, a writer and journalist who reported on protests in London earlier this summer For the complete transcript, podcast, and for additional Democracy Now! interviews about Occupy Wall Street, visit www.democracynow.org FOLLOW DEMOCRACY NOW! A few times a day, they march down to Wall Street, yelling, "This is what democracy looks like!" "When all the bailout money was spent on bonuses and stuff everyone was outraged, but no one did anything because no one feels like they can," protester Jesse Wilson, 22, said this week when asked to take articulate the cause. 700 arrested at Brooklyn Bridge protest

More than 700 protesters demonstrating against corporate greed, global warming and social inequality, among other grievances, were arrested Saturday after they swarmed the Brooklyn Bridge and shut down a lane of traffic for several hours in a tense confrontation with police. The group Occupy Wall Street has been camped out in a plaza in Manhattan's Financial District for nearly two weeks staging various marches, and had orchestrated an impromptu trek to Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon. They walked in thick rows on the sidewalk up to the bridge, where some demonstrators spilled onto the roadway after being told to stay on the pedestrian pathway, police said. The majority of those arrested were given citations for disorderly conduct and were released, police said. Some protesters sat on the roadway, chanting "Let us go," while others chanted and yelled at police from the pedestrian walkway above. Police used orange netting to stop the group from going farther down the bridge, which is under construction. Some of the protesters said they were lured onto the roadway by police, or they didn't hear the calls from authorities to head to the pedestrian walkway. Police said no one was tricked into being arrested, and those in the back of the group who couldn't hear were allowed to leave. "Multiple warnings by police were given to protesters to stay on the pedestrian walkway and that if they took roadway they would be arrested," said Paul Browne, the chief spokesman of the New York ...

SEIU President, Union Leaders Arrested in OWS Brooklyn Bridge Protest Demanding Job Creation

www.democracynow.org - Thursday's protest marking the Occupy movement's second month anniversary coincided with an event planned months earlier by unions and others. Marches were held on bridges across the country to draw attention to how federal funding to fix ailing infrastructure in the country could put unemployed people back to work. Protesters blocked bridges in Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit, St. Louis, Houston, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Hartford and Portland. Democracy Now! producer Renee Feltz reports that in New York City, labor leaders were arrested trying to block the entrance to the Brooklyn Bridge, including SEIU President Mary Kay Henry. "We think there is an economic emergency in this country that can be fixed and millions of people can go back to work in good jobs," Henry says. NYPD Tricks 750+ #OccupyWallStreet Revolutionaries into Arrest on Brooklyn Bridge

This video was taken by an arrested protester. The opinions expressed here are not necessarily endorsed by The Human Channel. Visit The Human Channel for live coverage of the Wall Street protest and "The Conversation with the 1%" According to one report, roughly 780 protesters were arrested on the Brooklyn Bridge. There are first hand accounts of a police announcement by bullhorn at the base of the bridge while blocking the lane, that few protesters could hear, before they walked forward in front of the protesters. It was in similar fashion to daily marches throughout the financial district. The Direct Action committee was said to have been announcing to protesters that they would be making a choice by entering the roadway and motioned towards the pedestrian ramp. Many protesters recant there was no pre-planned motive to take to the bridge, and the idea on the ground was to take the pedestrian roadway. It all has the feel of a classic street protest with one exception: It's unclear exactly what the demonstrators want.A real estate firm that owns Zuccotti Park, the private plaza off Broadway occupied by the protesters, has expressed concerns about conditions there, saying in a statement that it hopes to work with the city to restore the park "to its intended purpose." But it's not clear whether legal action will be taken, and police say there are no plans to try to remove anyone. "We see it as our job to make certain that people can demonstrate peacefully," Kelly said. Mostly, the protests have been peaceful, and the movement has shown no signs of losing steam. Celebrities like Michael Moore and Susan Sarandon even made recent stops downtown to encourage the group. Seasoned activists said the ad-hoc protest could prove to be a training ground for future organizers of larger and more cohesive demonstrations, or motivate those on the sidelines to speak out against injustices.
