After a night of thunderstorms and short power outages, the power finally stabled out. The only problem was that the storm had damaged a transformer in the neighborhood, causing a drop in voltage. So in this vid, I pretty much go around showing you the effects of the under voltage on various electrical devices in the house. Even now as I upload this video, the power is still not 100% back to normal, but at least the ac and the fridge can power on.

JCP&L does it again! My computer didn't seem to mind running on as low as 90 volts AC, but the lights certainly got very dim. And then just as the voltage seemed to be climbing back up to normal, the power went out entirely, and stayed off for about 10 minutes before coming back on at full voltage.

Technically, "Brownout is a condition of lower than normal power line voltage being supplied by your local utility or generating equipment." This condition may be short term (minutes to hours) or long term--who knows for how long? A power line voltage reduction of 8 to 12% is considered a brownout. And how is a brownout different from a blackout? When the power goes down entirely, you get to watch your TV set in the dark. It means all the electricity is off. That's a blackout. But both are bad news. With brownouts, computers do weird things. Motors will slow down and overheat. Voltage regulators sing, and when the voltage goes back to normal, things sizzle. An old proverb goes, "Protection doesn't cost, it pays"--something we often realize too late to do anything about. Filmed this with 3 key Cams and was lucky enough to catch a huge Thermal with the Radian Pro and went up fast too 720ft, the wind/thermal was blowing us all over the place and it was hard to stay straight, anyway next thing i knew it seemed like i had lost control and the Pro just started to head to the ground quick, i thought i was moving the controls all the time, trying to pull her out of this dive and the rear veiw camera shows the controls moving, they do stop for a second or three, was this a brownout? or was it just a huge Downdraft that sent me straight down, never thought to look at the Rx on landing, just opened the hatch and disconnected the battery , was still a great flight and i just love the Radian Pro

"Latin Asscape" by Brownout is from their 2007 album "Homenaje". Love this group so much. Before forming the Latin rock/salsa band Grupo Fantasma, guitarists Adrian Quesada and Beto Martinez, bassist Greg Gonzalez, trumpeter Gilbert Elorreaga, sax player Josh Levy, trombonist Leo Gauna, drummer Johnny Lopez, and conguero Matthew "Sweet Lou" Holmes were in all in an Austin, TX, funk band called the Blimp. In 2003, shortly before Grupo's Movimiento Popular came out, Quesada suggested starting up a funk outfit again, mostly with the intention of simply playing covers and having fun. Culling inspiration from groups like Santana, Earth, Wind & Fire, and P-Funk, and calling themselves Brownout, the octet members realized they sounded good enough to release a 7" in 2005 on England's Freestyle Records, a single that ended up doing so well -- and garnering so many follow-up requests -- that soon a 12" was issued too. This was all enough to convince the friends that Brownout should be a serious thing, and their full-length debut, Homenaje, was released in January 2008.
