Compilation of my camcorder clips from Bruntingthorpe Aerodrome's Cold War Jets open day staged on the 28th August 2011. Most of this action features classic aircraft performing various ground based displays & fast taxi runs. I must apologize in advance for cutting out a large piece of the Lightnings' fast taxi run, This was due to some idiot coming from out of nowhere & standing in front of my camera. He got to see the taxi run but thank's to him nobody else will on this video. All the same I still had a great day at Bruntingthorpe & thought it would be worthwhile to share the video that I filmed on YouTube. The featured aircraft are as follows... XV109 & XR807 Final Flights into Bruntingthorpe 6.4.2010
These two VC-10 Tankers are the first two Aircraft to be retired from the Raf`s fleet of Tankers based at Brize Norton under 101 SQN. XV109 & XR807 will now have all good parts that can be reused sent back to Brize Norton to keep the remaining 12 VC-10 Aircraft flying untill all will be out of service by 2014. It is sad to see yet more of this countries Aviation past going to the scrap man all of these machines were once flown by BOAC the fore runner of British Airways.Less than 12 months ago XR807 was flying proud next to Avro Vulcan XH558 over the skies of Brize Norton as part of a fantastic formation for the Families Day in June 2009.So this is film of the formation arrival and XV109 final bid for freedom in a final power climb. Sorry about the wind noise on this it is awful.

Having been on static display at Cold War Jets day, XH558 leaves Bruntingthorpe at 5.20pm on her return to base at Doncaster. Not one member of the large crowd gathered for the show left before seeing this!!

Lightning Jet XS904.Twilight Afterburner Static Run.Bruntingthorpe.
This was a fantastic evening afterburner run,using a electric Lightning belonging to the lightning preservation group,based at Bruntingthorpe airfield.I could'nt believe how loud the sound was,i forgot to put my earplugs in DOH!! The high pitch wine and hiss you here is caused by the Avpin starter, which is on the front of each engine, this produces a rush of gasses, into a primary turbine which winds the engine up to 34% within 9 seconds. By that time fuel is being pumped to the engine and its dragging its own air, a very simple way of starting jet engines in the days before electric starters.The two wheeled trolley under the starboard wing is known as a trolley Ack,it uses 2 12v lorry batteries, this gives us 24V which is the minimum voltage required to run all the pumps, etc prior and during the start of each engine. (28v is the 'peak' voltage) The wire (a 'bigun') runs from the trolley ack to the 'power in' point in the starboard wheel well. www.lightnings.org.uk www.offbreed.net

So after her display at Southend Airshow it was straight to Bruntingthorpe to take part in Cold War Jets open day. She was also there so the Vulcan to the Sky Club members could take a much closer look at this National icon.Martin Kev and Barry brought 558 in for a low pass then for the landing! I dont surpose they will need to clip the top of those trees now :-).Sorry about the bumpy cam work in the middle tripod was playing up!!.

3 laps in an Ultima GTR at Bruntingthorpe raising money for the charities Sparks and Wishes 4 Kids. Top speed hit in the morning of 185 mph on main straight, but eased back in the afternoon due to wheel judder upsetting the cars balance.
BMW M3 170 MPH at Bruntingthorpe, Leicestershire
On a test track with a Bmw M3 ..... 170 MPH ....... May 2009......Bmw has 7 speed M Double Clutch Transmission with 'Drivelogic'. We were in M Dynamic mode most of the time, using the paddle shifts on the steering wheel. On the straight, just kept the foot down and it 'flew'...... The owner Simon let me have a go and yes I had to try and yes we did 170 MPH again.......... The BMW was limited as after a mile up the runway and hitting 170 MPH, you could feel the revs slow, (It hesitated) it was only doing 6750 rpm and redlines at 8200 rpm.
