Started too far back (was supposed to start in 26th), ended up starting about 30th and straight into an unavoidable first corner crash. Made it back from 35th to 24th.

Cameron's best race so far in Super 1. A good start from 9th on the grid after an excellent 18th in TQ. After a 14th in heat 1 all he needed was a top 10 to qualify for his first ever Super 1 finals. Coming out of turn 1 in 5th meant the rest of the race was managing the risk and driving with a brain and he achieved this perfectly ending in 7th place, it's easy to see from his video he had the pace to chase the top 3 but that was not necessary. Others were more keen to hit the front and a ridiculous move by 21 on the last lap could have ended much worse for them both (check out the fact that Cam is nearly on the curb going in so clearly 21 was actually totally off the track). Good drive on a track he had never seen or driven just 1 week before.

In the early 90's Gary's Fan Club ran regular phoneline competitions. One of the prizes was a day go-karting with Gary at Buckmore Park in Kent on12th August 1991. I was one of the lucky winners. Gary was clearly a natural behind the wheel and it's no surprise he went on to be the overall winner on Sky TV's The Race a few years ago. I have put together some old video from the day to some Numan influenced music I also put together recently. Can't believe this was nearly twenty years ago !!!

Heat 2 of round 1. Lined up on G4, but effectively promoted to 2nd as Scott Martin spun off in the roll up, meaning he went to the back. He should have been joined by Ross W in 3rd, as he did the same, but somehow got back into position. Good race, again dicing with Ricky Angel, lucky not to punt him off and get a penalty, and letting jason Sichel slip past, but had a better kart this time, was better equipped to attack. Just lined him up for a move at Garda, when Jonny G and Darrell caught me at Paddock. Had a great view of their epic battle to the line, whilst following them home to take 5th.
