Zipblocks are green for several reasons. 1) The biggest reason that they are green is simply because you can use them over and over again. If you get tired of what you built, just take it apart and build something else. In this sensetheir value never diminishes. 2)They create zero waste during construction. When you cut Zipblocks in two you dont create waste you only create two smaller blocks! 3)They can be made out of sustainable resources. The ones illustrated in this video were made out of wood. In this video we demonstrate the assembly/disassembly of a small planter box that has a somewhat fancy design. We chose to make it small and somewhat fancy so that we could demonstrate this building systems ability to effortlessly morph into almost any geometric shape. This week we continue our renovation series with the cabinets. Greg, John and I built the unit in an afternoon and I cant recommend it enough. The clutter in your home will disappear if you utilize the space you live in to its fullest. Now construction isnt as complicated as its usually made out to be. Its really just common sense. Here are a few tips: Planning your project is all about knowing your space. For our cabinets we squared off a wall that had a slant to it, which said something about the architecture of the room. Look at your space with an eye to geometry and youll be able to make your built in esthetically pleasing as well as functionally viable. Measure twice, cut once its an old saw, but it still rings true. When starting to work on your project you can save yourself some grief by confirming your measurements, especially if youre planning on having your lumber yard cut your wood to size for you which is a great idea for apartment dwellers without access to table saws and the like. Take advantage of existing furniture. You saw this on our desk episode we built in an existing dresser. The professional finishing on furniture is something most built-ins will never be able to match. Using existing pieces of furniture is a great way to get that professional look without having to hire an expensive cabinet maker. Before making your presentation to your clients, you should create a finished floor plan drawn to scale. This will help in the design process; this floor plan will be the basis of your furniture layout and your formal presentation to your clients. When looking at a room the four basic questions to ask are: What are the balance lines of the room? What are the traffic patterns of the room? What's the focus of the room? And how can I establish the access for the room? Every room should have a focal point, in the case with this living room that I'm working on there's a definite focal point, there's a fireplace. So there's no question with that. If you don't have a focal point in a room it's always best to create one using a key piece of furniture or a beautiful piece of artwork. Even a beautiful scene out of a window was being a good focal point where you might create a beautiful drapery as a frame to the beautiful view. This is the 3rd installment of the Home Mansion spaces in Playstation®Home North America. The concept is kinda cool: interconnected spaces which can be accessed from each other; progressive pricing to give discounts to buyers of multiple parts; extensive built-in furniture to eliminate the need to try and fill a bug space with the 50 item limit. Three problems with THIS concept as they have executed it: 1) WOW It's cheezy; 2) The decor is NOT how I would decorate the space; 3) it is WAY overpriced ($35 for 4 spaces) They try to make up for the high price by making "gifts" for the owner and the owners guests in each new part. But the gold crap you get is worthless (too bad you can't flush them down the golden throne...lol) This is the best of the 3 released so far...it has 2 embedded games (pool and darts). And the decor isn't as far over the top as the hideous first floor (don't walk through the door!) Odd thing, the Home managers said the last 2 spaces would be introduced at the same time -- makes me wonder if something has gone wrong with the Garage space? Guess we'll have to wait and see now. My vote is the same for this as for the other 2 -- pass this up due to the bad style and high price. I hope this doesn't keep them from making another concept space like this however.
