So far 53 people have been officially confirmed as dead from Sunday's tradegy in the republic of Tatarstan. Search and rescue teams worked throughout the night, and a recovery operation continues today. It's emerged that the pleasure boat was not licenced to carry passengers, with Russia's emergencies minister now saying that there were 208 people on board.

One hundred people are now officially confirmed dead following the sinking of a pleasure boat on the Volga River, in what is Russia's worst boating disaster. 18 of the bodies recovered so far are children, who'd been enjoying a day out with their families when the Bulgaria disappeared beneath the surface in just a matter of minutes on Sunday.

Hundreds of people have demonstrated in Sofia, the capital city, chanting anti-Roma slogans. Saturday's demonstration came days after a week of nationwide protests and sporadic violence. Around 400 people have been arrested in the past week, in the worst outbreak of violence in the country since 1997. Al Jazeera's Peter Sharp reports from Sofia.

It's been described as the biggest boating disaster in Russia's modern history. In the space of just three minutes, a pleasure cruiser with 208 people onboard went down in the Volga river, taking over half of its passengers with it. Nearly 130 people were killed, many of them children. A week later, the operation to raise the ship from the bottom is underway. RT's Tom Barton is at the scene and monitoring the situation. The incident happened in the Black Sea city of Burgas, in front of the Jehovah Witnesses Kingdom Hall, where VMRO staged a protest rally. The Jehovah's Witnesses are reported as light; furniture and equipment inside the Kingdom Hall have been damaged and broken. 10 people are under arrest -- all from VMRO, including the party's regional leader, Georgi Drakaliev, the Burgas police say. All are going to be questioned. The protest rally against the Jehovah Witnesses was scheduled for 7 pm Sunday. Emergency services have recovered more bodies from the Russian pleasure boat that sank in the Volga River two weeks ago, killing 120 people. The wrecked ship has been lifted from the bottom and towed to shallow waters. The task is now to drain the hull, so investigators can examine the vessel in detail to determine the cause of the tragedy. The search continues for two others whose fate remains unknown - it's believed their bodies could still be trapped inside. The Bulgaria went down within minutes on July 10, drowning more than half of its two hundred passengers. In Russia's central republic of Tatarstan, salvage teams have raised the sunken pleasure cruiser the 'Bulgaria', from the Volga river bed. It went down in minutes almost two weeks ago, drowning 114 passengers, eight are still unaccounted for. Thrace /ˈθreɪs/ (demonym Thracian /ˈθreɪʃⁱən/; Bulgarian: Тракия, Trakiya, Greek: Θράκη, Thráki, Turkish: Trakya) is a historical and geographic area in southeast Europe. As a geographical concept, Thrace designates a region bounded by the Balkan Mountains on the north, Rhodope Mountains and the Aegean Sea on the south, and by the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara on the east.
