Bwiti healing ceremonies, Gabon 2010

This guy is suffering from back pain and here are two examples of healings. The first is a rope-cutting at Ebando, done by Mambongo. (I can only show the first part of the ceremony). The second scene is of an open air smoking at a campsite in the bush about 50 kilometers from Muila, conducted by Papa Pedro. www.ibogalife.com MUSIC: Mougongo from the album Gabon People (Nat'l Geo)

Bwiti Smoking Ceremony, Gabon, Ebando --ibogalife

Two days before Iboga Ceremony we underwent this smoke cleanse. Similar to a dry sauna treatment; you sweat a lot for 20 minutes. You are instructed to pray while you undergo this trial; I encountered a few hallucinations. The sacred red wood that burns is very fragrant. Pemba conducts the technology, Mobengo helps out and Mabiango plays mougongo. Camera by Inanga. www.ibogalife.com

The Bwiti Eboga Plant -(Ibogaine) can cure drug addiction

Iboga (aka eboga) has been known to the Twa of the Congo Basin for more than 20000 years and in the past 300 years has played a central role in the Bwiti religion of West Central Africa (the fastest growing black African religion). Ibogaine is the principle and for many "the" alkaloid of the eboga plant. Ibogaine in a Western context is primarily used for withdrawal from drugs of dependence such as heroin, methadone, cocaine and others; as well as for the exposing, understanding and sometimes healing of unresolved life events Bwiti: an Ethnography of the Religious Imagination in Africa www.ibogaine.desk.nl Ibogaine has also been patented as an anti-neurotoxic medication (Dr. John Olney, US Patent 5629307).
