Egypt - Cairo -- مصر القاهرة الساحرة الساهرة أم الدنيا

Egypt - Cairo ( The land of beauty & The world's mother ) -(مصر القاهرة (القاهرة الساهرة الساحرة أم الدنيا en.wikipedia.org Cairo (Arabic: القاهرة‎ al-Qāhira, literally "The Victorious") is the capital of Egypt, and the largest city in Africa, and the Arab World, as well as one of the most densely-populated cities in the world.[1][2] Nicknamed "The City of a Thousand Minarets" for its preponderance of Islamic architecture, Cairo has long been a center of the region's political and cultural life. Even before Cairo was established in the tenth century, the land composing the present-day city was the site of national capitals whose remnants remain visible in parts of Old Cairo. Cairo is also associated with Ancient Egypt due to its proximity to the Great Sphinx and the pyramids in adjacent Giza. Egyptians today often refer to Cairo as Maṣr (Arabic: مصر‎), the Egyptian Arabic pronunciation of the name for Egypt itself, emphasizing the city's continued role in Egyptian influence. Cairo has the oldest and largest film and music industries in the Arab World, as well as the world's second-oldest institution of higher learning, al-Azhar University. Many international media, businesses, and organizations have regional headquarters in the city, and the Arab League has been based in Cairo for most of its existence. With a population of 6.8 million[3] spread over 214 square kilometers (83 sq mi), Cairo is by far the largest city in Egypt. With an additional ten million inhabitants ...

Cairo Anger: 'Israel done plenty to make enemies of Egyptian people'

The Egyptian government's vowed to tighten security and keep order in Cairo, where an angry mob stormed and sacked the Isareli embassy on Friday night. Three people died and more than a thousand were injured in clashes, after a demonstration demanding faster political reforms turned against the embassy. Egyptian police were slow to intervene, but eventually managed to disperse the crowd. Anti-Israeli sentiment rose sharply last month after Israeli forces, responding to a cross-border militant attack, mistakenly killed five Egyptians. The Israeli Prime Minister says his country will stick to its peace treaty with Egypt despite the embassy assault that led to its staff being flown home. But Cairo-based journalist Mohamed Abdelfatah says Tel Aviv's done plenty to make enemies of the Egyptian people... RT on Twitter: twitter.com RT on Facebook: www.facebook.com

Video of Cairo clashes as Mubarak back in Egypt court for trial

Supporters and opponents of the ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak clashed outside and inside the court building as the trial of the 83-year-old former president continues. Monday's session was temporarily halted after legal advisers for the opposing parties at the trial started a brawl, local media reported. It is not clear yet whether the trial will resume. Mubarak is charged with corruption and complicity in the killing of protestors during the February uprising that toppled him. Standing in the dock along with him are two of his sons and a senior aide. Four policemen are to testify against Mubarak on Monday. The session is the third round of court hearings after proceedings were delayed on August 15. The judge banned cameras from the Police Academy building where the hearings are taking place, provoking anger from Mubarak opponents who wanted a swift and open trial. Protest rages outside the Syrian embassy in Cairo

Supporters and opponents of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad gathered outside the Syrian embassy in Cairo on Sunday amidst escalating violence in the country where the death toll has reached 3000 people since the start of the uprising in March. Sunday also saw the Arab League issue its strongest condemnation of the violence in Syria but it stopped short of suspending the country from the organization. Syrian officials were to hold more talks in Qatar with delegates of the Arab League and to establish dialogue with the opposition in Cairo. Although the League has given Assad two weeks to hold the dialogue, the president shows no signs of easing the crackdown. The demonstration in Cairo attracted both Assad's opponents and his supporters. Nizar Kharaat, a Syiran protestor said, "Today, the regime has sent at the expense of the Syrian people, thugs and paid people to stand and cheer for him. The people standing here and chanting 'the people want the execution of Bashar' are the true Arab Syrians. They reflect the true voice of the streets in Syria. Nobody has paid them, they have sacrificed everything to speak out. However, the others have been paid to come here and mimic Assad's words." The president's supporters blame Syrians living in exile for destabilizing Syria. In related news, Syrian activists have appealed to the international community to impose a no-fly zone on Syria and protect civilians from the brutal crackdown. Revolt Redux: Cairo crowds back to Tahrir

In Egypt, crowds are gathering again in Cairo's Tahrir Square, urging interim military rulers to accelerate democratic reforms and announce a concrete timeline for a handover to civilian rule. They are also demanding to put an end to military trials for civilians. The so-called 'Million man protest' billed as 'Correcting the path' of revolution is likely to become one of the largest demonstrations since the February uprising. The ruling military council said it would allow peaceful protests, but would not tolerate any violence. Cairo at a Crossroads. EMW travel.

Cairo, Egypt. The pyramids, the mosques, the churches, the kosheri (never heard of it? look it up!): awesome. And the hospitality is unparalleled. It's almost annoying... well... okay, it's actually annoying sometimes. People are so nice you can't keep them from doing you "favors" you don't want. But hey, when I got lost and needed directions, a man walked me all the way home. And he bought me a twinky at a road stall! But I digress. It's a great place. Two weeks after Mubarak resigned? It was awesome. A few tourists were just beginning to trickle back in, I had the pyramids to myself, and I made a lot of new friends with activists. The cool thing about Cairo right now though is nearly everyone is an activist. Watch the video for more and don't forget to subscribe for weekly videos.

Cairo Clashes Video: Violence back on Egypt Tahrir Square

There's been fresh unrest in Cairo where at least 50 protesters have been injured in clashes with police. Dozens were also injured on Tuesday as hundreds of protesters took first to the Interior Ministry, and then shifted to Tahrir square, the epicentre of the revolution in February. Protesters are angry about the slow process of prosecuting security officers, accused of causing the deaths of more than 800 people, during the uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak.

Dramatic video as thousands clash with Egypt riot police in Cairo

The Egyptian capital Cairo was the scene of violent chaos on Friday, when tens of thousands of anti-government protesters stoned and confronted police, who fired back with rubber bullets, tear gas and water cannons. It was a major escalation in what was already the biggest challenge to authoritarian President Hosni Mubarak's 30 year-rule. Protests Outside the Israeli Embassy in Cairo

Hundreds of Egyptians continued to protest outside the Israeli Embassy in Cairo for a second day on Saturday, and have vowed to do so until the Israeli ambassador to Egypt is forced out of his office. Egypt recalled its ambassador from Israel to protest the deaths of at least three Egyptian troops killed in a shootout between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian militants who had launched a deadly attack on Israel from Egyptian soil. Egypt said on Saturday it was withdrawing its ambassador from Israel pending an investigation by the Jewish state into the border killings, which have raised tensions between the two countries. a protester said, "If Israel thinks that things are like the days of the corrupt regime, when Egyptian soldiers were killed and we were forced to remain quiet, they're wrong; there has been a revolution and I want to tell Israel that one Egyptian soldier is worth 10 Israeli soldiers." Saeed said,"We, the men of the square, ousted the tyrant Hosni Mubarak; do you think it would be difficult for us to do same with a vile ambassador sitting upstairs? We're not leaving; this is the will of a people and he will leave." Egypt's cabinet also demanded an official apology from Israeli leaders for statements accusing Egyptian military rulers of losing their grip on the Sinai Peninsula. An army officer and two Egyptian security men died when Israeli troops chased gunmen who killed eight Israelis on a road near the Egyptian border on Thursday. Seven Egyptian security ...
