This is a video of myself and my friends going camping in January 2012. We hiked back in approximately 1 mile uphill to a secluded camp spot out in the woods. Due to having to hike back in, no others have camped here before (as far as we know--in other words this is not a "mainstream" camp site), hence the woods was undisturbed with trash and had plenty of fallen/dead firewood for building structures and for burning a camp fire. Everything you see in the video: food, supplies, camera gear, etc. was hiked in on our backpacks. My bag and attached gear weighed close to 60 lbs. My friends' packs were similar in size and weight. Temperatures reached around 40 degrees Fahrenheit during the day, and dropped down to around 20 at night. The only real issue we had, was water. We each had a canteen full and used that up by the end of the first day, which meant we had to melt down snow for water---that is, what snow there was, as it quickly melted. Day 2, we ended up hiking 4-5 miles exploring and reached a fresh water spring in which we filled a water container up with 3 gallons of water, providing enough for the rest of the camping trip. Regretfully, I did not get footage of this hike, as most gear was left behind. Trip lasted 3 days and 2 nights. Point of this video is to demonstrate some camping skills, and to encourage others to go out, even in winter, to enjoy nature, and get some exercise. Happy camping!
