Cassino - Maddie Bloom

Maddie Bloom by Cassino from the album Kingprince Available on iTunes and physical disc soon: itunes.apple.com www.myspace.com -Maddie's always moving. Shes flying down the aisles. -Got both hands in her pockets, trying to keep the balance mild. -Her motions like a movie, slicing constant air -The wires are electrifying her phosphorescent hair. -I've seen the hunger, soaking through your shirt -Sunken eyes found alive but smashed under the dirt. -So lord give her one more set of hands -For those dulling rings that I can barely stand. -I hope when I leave, she leaves them buried here, -And they dont grow into the air. -Sing of soaking through me, on a kitchen chair. -Sing of all the savage tiny bites that blossomed tears. -The glass is always glowing, theres vacancy out there, -But dont you ride out very far; youll end up everywhere -So slow -Speed erodes -The weight of bother on your body will fall down like snow. -Lord take this telephone in hand. -Its lost the ring that I once couldnt stand. -I hope when I leave, I leave it buried here, -And it dont grow into the air.

Adam Aston - Czerwone maki na Monte Cassino, 1944

Adam Aston (Adolf Loewensohn) was one of three or four most popular pre-war "crooners" in Poland. His performances of the Polish as well as international hits, called in Poland with the German word, the "schlagers" - remained on Odeon, Columbia or Syrena-Electro records as masterpieces of the singing art - dramatic, strong, and sung with his stunning Jewish cantor-like tenor/baritone entirely free from any sentimental manner of the era. When in September 1939 Nazi troops invaded Poland and WWII broke out, that king of Polish "Tin Pan Alley business" managed to flee to Eastern part of Poland - in the meanwhile taken by Soviet army, who, according to Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact, attacked Poland from the east as the Hitler's loyaliest ally. In those gloomy days Aston followed the way of millions of Polish citizens living there: hundreds of thousands were killed, hundreds of thousands - deported by the Soviets into deep Russia. Yet, he managed to survive again through this Polish Apocalypse and, as soon as the Nazis attacked Russia in June 1942, he joined the Polish army being formed by General Władysław Anders -- according to the quickly made pact Sikorski-Stalin -- from those of Polish officers and soldiers, who survived the Stalinist labor camps or were not massacred in Katyn -- the place of the XXth Century Polish Apocalypse in Russia. In 1943, together with the Anders' army, Aston left Soviet Union and marched to Iran, to Palestine, Tobruk & Italy, together with the Western ...

The pact signed in Moscow at the end of August between Hitler and Stalin gave a green light for war against Poland. This gave the Polish government-in-exile in London a chance to negotiate the release of Polish prisoners held in the Gulag. 1ST BENEDICTINE MONESTARY (FOUNDED BY ST. BENEDICT) DESTROYED (BY ALLIES) WITH MONKS STILL INSIDE. The Peace Formula by AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada The great mistake of modern civilization is to encroach upon others' property as though it were one's own and thereby create an unnecessary disturbance of the laws of nature. These laws are very strong. No living entity can violate them. Only one who is Krsna conscious can easily overcome the stringent laws of nature and thus become happy and peaceful in the world. As a state is protected by the department of law and order, so the state of the universe, of which this earth is only an insignificant fragment, is protected by the laws of nature. This material nature is one of the different potencies of God, who is the ultimate proprietor of everything that be. This earth is, therefore, the property of God, but we, the living entities, especially the so-called civilized human beings, are claiming God's property as our own under both an individual and collective false conception. If you want peace, you have to remove this false conception from your mind and from the world. This false claim of proprietorship by the human race on earth is partly or wholly the cause of all disturbances of peace on earth. Foolish so-called civilized men are claiming proprietary rights on the property of God because they have now become godless. You cannot be happy and peaceful in a godless society. Battle of Monte Cassino - Part 1

Part 1 of 5 From the documentary series "Germany's War", the Battle of Monte Cassino Battle of Monte Cassino The Battle of Monte Cassino (also known as the Battle for Rome and the Battle for Cassino) was a costly series of four battles during World War II, fought by the Allies against Germans with the intention of breaking through the Winter Line and seizing Rome. In the beginning of 1944, the western half of the Winter Line was being anchored by Germans holding the Rapido, Liri and Garigliano valleys and certain surrounding peaks and ridges, together known as the Gustav Line. The Germans had not occupied the historic hilltop abbey of Monte Cassino, founded in AD 524 by Benedict of Nursia and which dominated the town of Cassino and the entrances to the Liri and Rapido valleys, although they manned defensive positions set into the steep slopes below the abbey walls. On 15 February, the monastery, high on a peak overlooking the town of Cassino, was destroyed by 1400 tons of bombs dropped by American bombers. The bombing was based on the fear that the abbey was being used as a lookout post for the German defenders (this position evolved over time to admit that German soldiers were not garrisoned there but that the risk of the monastery becoming occupied justified the action). Two days after the bombing, German paratroopers took up positions in the ruins; the destruction caused by the bombing and the resulting jagged wasteland of rubble gave troops improved protection from ...

A Trip to the Cassino War Cemetery in Italy - WWII

While in Naples, we took a side trip to the Cassino War Cemetery in Cassino, Italy. Within the Cassino War Cemetery is the Cassino Memorial. 49261 members of the British Commonwealth died in the fighting in Italy and many of them have no known grave. These soldiers are memorialized on the walls of the Cassino Memorial. Of the 4054 names on the Cassino Memorial panels, 194 are Canadian. The Memorial itself consists of 14 marble pillars rising 5 metres on either side of a reflecting pool. The 4054 names are inscribed on the pillars. My wife's great uncle Wilfred Nelson Nadon is among the names, so we paid him and the other Canadians memorialized and interred at the cemetery a visit in May 2008.

Arjuna was addressed as "the son of Prtha," who happened to be the sister of Krsna's father Vasudeva. Therefore Arjuna had a blood relationship with Krsna. If the son of a ksatriya declines to fight, he is a ksatriya in name only, and if the son of a brahmana acts impiously, he is a brahmana in name only. Such ksatriyas and brahmanas are unworthy sons of their fathers; therefore, Krsna did not want Arjuna to become an unworthy son of a ksatriya. Arjuna was the most intimate friend of Krsna, and Krsna was directly guiding him on the chariot; but in spite of all these credits, if Arjuna abandoned the battle, he would be committing an infamous act; therefore Krsna said that such an attitude in Arjuna did not fit his personality. Arjuna might argue that he would give up the battle on the grounds of his magnanimous attitude for the most respectable Bhisma and his relatives, but Krsna considered that sort of magnanimity not approved by authority. Therefore, such magnanimity or so-called nonviolence should be given up by persons like Arjuna under the direct guidance of Krsna. Bhagavad-gita 2.3 protectacow.typepad.com

The Lost Evidence: Monte Cassino (1/5)

In September 1943, a three hundred thousand strong Allied army invaded Italy; they aimed to undermine Hitler's control of what Winston Churchill called the "underbelly of Europe." Although Mussolini's fascist government surrendered on 8 September 1943, Germanys much feared paratroops, the Fallschirmjager, remained to defend the country. At Monte Cassino, an industrial town sixty miles south of Rome, the forces of General Harold Alexander faced the frantic defenders of Hitler's Reich in a series of bloody and controversial battles. In this groundbreaking documentary, we examine photographs taken by the reconnaissance aircraft that flew high above the carnage capturing the vicissitudes of the battle. British and German aerial photographs taken at the time have been layered over a three dimensional contour map in order to create a CGI model of the battles for Monte Cassino. For the first time, these original high-resolution images allow the viewer to track the battle, step by step, from the air. Using cutting edge technology, unique archive film, re-enactments and extraordinary interviews with the men who were there, this documentary provides a unique and refreshing insight into the complex killing grounds of Monte Cassino.

Monte Cassino - The Soldiers' Story (1/4)

Monte Cassino - The Soldiers' Story Account of the infamous Second World War battle, at the peak of which Allied troops laid siege to a medieval castle in Italy for five days in 1944. The conflict in Italy was controversial from the start, with the Allies divided over the importance and purpose of the campaign, while Hitler felt that victory here would dissuade his enemies from their grander schemes. Tactical errors led to a devastating loss of life before a truce was agreed. The accounts of veterans from both sides are used to create a balanced picture of the conflict, with members of the German First Parachute Regiment and the British First and Fourth Essex sharing their memories.
