Chose the right caulk - For energy savings to last, use 100% silicone caulking that will not break down, like GE Silicone 2 Window and Door Caulk. 2. Find the leaks - Look around windows and doors and check where old caulk has failed. Check your attics and basements as well. 3. Clean the surface - Remove old caulk, dirt and particles. 4. Prep the tube and seal - Cut the nozzle to the desire bead size, pierce the inner seal with a stiff wire, then insert the cartridge into the caulking gun. Hold the caulking gun at a 45 degree angle. Use your finger or a caulk smoothing tool. If you're going to paint, use a paintable caulk like GE Groov. 5. Clean up - With silicone caulk, you will need to use mineral spirits to clean up.
