Protesters clash with Central Security Forces in Tahrir Square, Cairo, 19 November 2011

This Video was shot between about 2pm and 4pm on November 19 in Tahrir Square. It shows the early stages of a battle that raged on well into the night, and marked the beginning of the biggest protests so far against the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces which has been ruling the country since Mubarak resigned. Protesters don't think SCAF is serious about handing over power to an elected civillian government.

One street becomes symbol of Egypt's "return to Tahrir"

Mohamed Mahmoud Street, which runs east from Tahrir Square toward the Interior Ministry headquarters in central Cairo, has become the focal point of street fights between protesters and the black-clad Central Security Forces. For three days, protesters have been carried or driven back from the front line by comrades after coming under fire from rubber bullets and what they believe is either particularly potent or poisoned tear gas. At least 33 people have died across the country, according to the Health Ministry, many from tear gas asphyxiation. Doctors also believe that security forces have fired live ammunition. Official security forces are surrounding a young woman and beating her up while she's screaming. Later on, the video shows how these forces are trying to excite the protesters and people who are mourning on Ashoora, by beating them while they're calmly walking. They also try to pass through pedestrians on their motorbikes, just to excite and scare them away. This is happening near "Darvazeh Dowlat" which is the cross section of Enghelab and Mofatteh Ave. in central Tehran. (December 27 2009)

Violence flares near Tahrir after tentative ceasfire

There has been little respite in the streets around Tahrir Square since violence began on Saturday. Central Security Force riot police continue to fight running battles with groups of young men on the front lines, firing tear gas and cartridge rounds against the protesters' rocks and petrol bombs. A brief cease fire brokered by religious scholars from al-Azhar University brought a short lull to the fighting on Wednesday afternoon, and army soldiers moved in to separate the two sides, backed by armoured personnel carriers. But the ceasefire was shattered when riot police fired a barrage of tear gas over the soldiers' heads, throwing Mohamed Mahmoud Street - the focal point of the fighting - into chaos. Central Reserve Police Force - CRPF - Paramilitary Force India

The Central Reserve Police Force also known as CRPF is a paramilitary security Force functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Home Affairs(MHA), Government of India. The CRPF's primary role lies in assisting the State/Union Territories in police operations to maintain law and order and contain insurgency. It came into existence as the Crown Representative's Police on 27 July 1939. After Indian Independence, it became the Central Reserve Police Force on enactment of the CRPF Act on 28 December 1949. Besides Law and Order and counter-insurgency duties, the role of CRPF in the General Elections, held repeatedly during the past few years, has been very significant and vital. This is especially true for the trouble-ridden states of J&K, Bihar and in the North East. During the Parliamentary elections of September 1999, the CRPF played a major role in the security arrangements. The CRPF is the largest paramilitary force in the world[1] with 210 battalions besides various establishments. Of late, CRPF contingents are also being deployed in UN missions. CRPF uses basic Infantry weapons such as: FN 35 and Glock 17 9 mm pistols Heckler & Koch MP5 replacing the Carbine 1A 9 mm sub-machine guns INSAS 5.56 mm assault rifles INSAS 5.56 mm light machine guns replacing the Bren L4 machine guns AGS-17 Plamya 30 mm automatic grenade launcher AK 47 and AKM Tavor TAR-21 In addition to these, CRPF also uses land mine detectors. The government did find an alternative housing for only 100 families last Monday, resettling them in El-Nahda neighborhood, Madinet el-Salam. On the same day, Central Security Forces raided the slum again, and rounded up roughly 70 men, and took them in two prison trucks, throwing one group in the desert on the Cairo-Suez road and another near Tora, south of Cairo. They were warned if they demonstrate again, "they'll be taken behind the sun," according to a leftist activist who is in touch with the slum community leaders. arabawy

The Military police was ready. They blocked the street leading to MOD with tanks and troops. Once we reached the blocked street many residents of Abbaseya stared quarreling and fighting with us. Minutes later Central Security Forces showed up from the other side along with thugs and angry residents. They came with batons, swords, tear gas canisters, rubber bullets and even Molotov Cocktails. The battle stayed for almost 4 hours. More than 300 were injured that day according to Ministry of Health. Worth mentioning: during the battle 2 choppers were flying above us the whole time. I personally believe that it was either Tantawi or Mubarak watching us. For real time updated follow me on Twitter: twitter.com

Thai Red Shirts and military both sense the big battle is yet to come

Thai protesters said that they would fortify their sprawling encampment in Bangkok's upscale hotel-and-shopping district before venturing out to "wage a big war" to topple the government they decry as illegitimate. Thousands of Red Shirts were shoring up their defences while guards dressed in black, some with bulletproof vests, set up new checkpoints in the areas they now occupy. Protestors were seen sharpening hundreds of long bamboo rods and piling them into tall stacks. These makeshift spears are to be used with slingshots, part of an arsenal of crude weaponry that could be brought into action if needed. Government soldiers in full combat gear guarded other nearby sections of the capital, in an increasingly tense standoff that has shuttered 5-star hotels and glitzy shopping malls and cost Thailand's economy tens of millions of dollars. Red Shirt security details are manning checkpoints fortified by barbed wire, controlling traffic into and out of the protest zone. Security forces moved into nearby Silom Road to deter any Red Shirt incursion into the central business district. A failed April 10 attempt by security forces to flush protesters from that neighbourhood erupted into the worst political violence Thailand has seen in 18 years, leaving 25 dead and more than 800 wounded. During these street battles, the military lost a senior officer and suffered scores of other casualties among its troops, who were mostly equipped for riot control rather than lethal combat. Thousands have been camping in Tahrir since then, saying they will not leave until the interim military-led government delivers on their demands, which include: Justice for all who suffered under the rule of ousted President Hosni Mubarak and the hundreds of people killed during the Revolution (including by holding trials for police and officials like Mubarak and former Interior Minister Habib el Adly); Jobs and fair wages; an end to military tribunals for civilians who have been arrested and/or jailed; and democratic elections. Young men and women are manning the security entrances leading into the Square, asking people for identification before patting them down and checking inside bags. An air of paranoia is said to be stoked by the interim government, with the threat of spies and armed thugs apparently contributing to a Palestinian friend and I being initially denied entry one night, as a young woman told us, "Egyptians only" for security reasons. PAF s' Multimedia paffalcons.com Military offensive has been launched against militants in central tehsil of Kurram Agency and families have started fleeing the conflict zone, sources said. A senior official in Peshawar confirmed that a 'full-fledged operation' had been launched in the valley on Sunday. Two weeks ago, the government had notified 80 square kilometres of the area in central Kurram as conflict zone. "I have no specific details, but operation has started in the mountainous area," the official said. Central Kurram is adjacent to Tora Bora, reportedly the stronghold of Al Qaeda in Afghanistan. Militants having lost their positions in Waziristan and other parts of Fata and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have set up their sanctuaries in Central Kurram. The sources said that troops had been dropped from helicopters in Manato and Zaimukhet and army and paramilitary forces, backed by air force, were conducting a joint operation in the area. They said that thousands of troops were taking part in the operation. The military offensive has triggered displacement as large numbers of families have started moving to lower part of the tehsil where a relief camp has been set up at Durrani area. The Fata Disaster Management Authority has set up two registration centres where 500 displaced families have enrolled themselves so far. According to official estimates, over 4000 families are likely to flee their homes because of the military operation.

Click here for more Videos: www.youtube.com April 11, 2012 Protests and Clashes Are Seen in Chongqing Thousands of Chinese protesters clashed with police and uniformed security forces wielding batons in an area of Chongqing on Wednesday, according to news reports and images posted by activists. News Link: thelede.blogs.nytimes.com The clashes in Chongqing, a fast-growing urban center, broke out after crowds gathered to protest economic issues in the Wansheng district of the sprawling municipality, just south of the main city of Chongqing and the epicenter of a widening political scandal that has shaken China. There were no indications of a connection between the protests, which began on Tuesday, and the announcement shortly after by central government authorities in Beijing that the former party secretary of Chongqing, Bo Xilai, had been stripped of his post in the Politburo and his wife arrested as the prime suspect in the killing of a British businessman. An official denied any connection between the Chongqing protest and the political scandal at the upper levels of the Chinese government, telling The Associated Press that angry crowds had gathered in Wansheng to protest a recent municipal merger with a neighboring county this year that had exacerbated the economic woes of many residents. "I want to eat. Return Wansheng district to me," read one banner, The AP report said. Photos posted to Chinese microblogs and collected ...

Lashkar Gah now in Afghan control 20.07.11

British troops have formally handed control of security in Lashkar Gah to Afghan forces - a significant milestone in a process of transition that will continue to 2014 and beyond. It is the third of seven districts across Afghanistan where responsibility for security is gradually shifting from ISAF forces to their Afghan counterparts. Today, no coalition troops are involved in the day-to-day security of the bustling town. British forces will stay in the remainder of Central Helmand province to continue to develop the capability and capacity of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF). Although security in Lashkar Gah is good, work in other areas will continue to ensure UK forces remain on track to withdraw combat forces by the end of 2014. Helmand's Provincial Governor Gulab Mangal, said: "Every day I wake up in Helmand, proud to be an Afghan. Today, I am especially proud that the people of Helmand, like the other places in Afghanistan, are starting to take control of this beautiful Province that has been my proud home for many years. "The sacrifices made by the coalition forces, in five years, first led bravely by the British, then the strong Americans, and alongside great warriors from Denmark, and Estonia and other nations, will never be forgotten by our people." The UK Defence Secretary Liam Fox said: "The Afghan National Security Forces have proven they are capable of delivering security to the local people of Lashkar Gah, and today's ceremony recognises this."
