BMW has released a fancy CGI animation promo for their BMW EfficientDynamics engine family featuring TwinPower Turbo. The video starts off with an android of sorts virtually building an engine. It goes on to demonstrate BMW's "Perfect Cylinder" combustion via turbo, Valvetronic and direct injection technology. Now this is where things get interesting as the android continues to build a four cylinder engine mounted in a vehicle's engine bay longitudinally. BMW loyalists might want to look away at this part as the android then takes another 4-cylinder turbo and mounts it transversely. This indicates a front wheel drive vehicle, which BMW has already announced, but not without an apprehensive response from purists. They fear the move will dilute BMW's ability to make cars with great driving dynamics - a characteristic the BMW brand has become known for. The video continues with the modular engine being expanded to 6-cylinder and then it's cut in half as a 3-cylinder and fitted to a new smaller vehicle presumably the upcoming i3.

With the success of the "Transformers" movies, and the pending "Robotech", "Voltron" and "Battletech" films, I was honestly counting the days until this giant robot franchise was going to be snatched up by some Hollywood studio. Indeed, Mattel's classic line of giant robot toys, called "Shogun Warriors" is going to be developed into a live-action film by Jules Urbach, and as you may have guessed, is going to be in 3D. These minimal budget laptop Computer animation effects were for a documentary recreation of a genuine case where a group of New Zealand lifesavers at Whangarei "ocean beach" were surrounded by a pod of dolphins that protected them from a circling great white shark for about 1 hour before they drove it off. Also shown is a Mako attack on a swimmer in the Red Sea where dolphins intervened. In reality Makos look silver greyish underwater. Helicopter Aerial shots of Whangarei bay in NZ have composited humans and dolphins filmed separately from a crane in seaworld and match moved to the helicopter footage. Golgo 13: The Professional is one of the earliest anime productions to use computer generated imagery and it shows. Yes, I know that it's an old anime, but I still think they would have been better off doing that helicopter scene by means of traditional animation. Even though they wouldn't have been able to mimic all those 3D effects that way, the result would have been much more consistent with the rest of the movie. I really like the style they used in the 2D parts of the movie, but that helicopter scene just feels out of place and distracts the viewer.
