Character Design - Thumbnailing (Thorin Oakenshield)


This is the first part of a longer series exploring a Character Design workflow of starting with thumbnail silhouettes, to then more refined thumbnails and in later parts, final paintings. The character is Thorin Oakenshield a Dwarf from Lord Of the Rings. I use just custom brushes with eraser, using hotkeys for tool selection to speed things up. Another tip is to press ctrl-click while you have the selection tool and click the silhouette you want to select to choose that layer. www.howtodigitalpaint.com

Pig Character Design


The follow up to my previous video where I sketch the pig character using Sketchbook Pro (Autodesk). This time I'm "cleaning up" the character using Adobe Flash CS4's vector tools. As you will see I make plenty of design decisions along the way, often re-drawing the same line over again to get it "just right" (or "just wrong" depending on how you look at it).
