This is me playing the telecaster style guitar that I made. Cost about 60 quid and its running through a Marshall mg15dfx that cost about the same! All in all i think they don't sound bad for the money. Please note it does sound a bit out of tune when I am doing the chords lower down the neck because of the poor intonation. I also haven't had time to finish sorting out some of its 'minor' problems, like only the bridge pickup working! Its a great guitar for some real twangy funk and country. My $55 guitar needed truss rod adjustment, nut trimming, neck shimming, bridge setup, fret levelling, and that got it from 3/8" action in the shop down to nice and low. If I could be happy with this cheapo then I could happily sell the more expensive guitars I'm not worthy to play. But just when things were going great, it sounded like the humbucker was a bit scratchy...

Made by Renaissance a Korean guitar company (that I have never been able to find any information about) sometime in 1995-7 supposedly it cost around 300$CAN. I think it sounds pretty good considering all it's been through. Including wild climate changes three owners and "someone" *cough*me*cough* scratching their initials into the pick-guard during an SRV phase. The David Essig song via the Don Ross arrangement that will be on my demo CD, I may post a slightly more embellished version later. "Dirty Deeds" by AC/DC. Saw their kickoff show at Gillette Stadium last night and it was unreal, so I just have to put another AC/DC tune up here. I couldn't believe how hard they rocked live. This is probably my favorite song by them, and they really amped this one up at the concert. Not the most exciting song to play, but whatever, I added a little extra at the end. As usual, this is done entirely by ear (it's a simple song). Enjoy, and if AC/DC is coming to your town this summer, I very highly recommend going.

My new $55 guitar is now worth twice as much thanks to the GFS Dream 180 pickup. You can't hear it well on the vid, but to my ears the scratchy, sterile sound of the stock humbucker is gone. Having said that, the Dream 180 is weaker than the stock single coils so I have had to raise it up very close to the strings, whilst the single coils are buried in the pickguard. Will there be an epilogue? Well, while I was putting the guitar back together I tightened down all six screws at the front of the bridge. I don't use the vibrato bar, so why not? But could it be that nailing the bridge down on the wood removes some of the jangle? Or am I just experiencing the usual hangover from getting a new bit of guitar gear? Stay tuned...

Ronnie played Seattle's Rockabilly Ball two years in a row - it's a benefit for Dr. Leon Berman's "Shake The Shack" radio show on KEXP (then called KCMU). In 1997 he appeared with Nick Curran and Nick's band backing, and he played Marc Bristol's immortal song, giving Marc a major thrill! Ronnie changed the words a little to suit himself - you can hear Marc's original version at Filé Gumbo's Myspace page, and read Marc's interview with Ronnie in the still available issue #30 of Blue Suede News. Many thanks to Blue Suede News columnist (and at that time also assistant editor) Dennis DeWitt for capturing the moment on this video! It wasn't the only thrill at the time - Marc's sweetheart Gaby was visiting him for the first time that same week, and covering the event for her magazine Rockin' Fifties, based in Munich. They've now been married almost 10 years! That show was at Seattle's Showbox, and Sonny Burgess was also on the bill.

They run $15-20 for a cheap one, so this video will show you how to make one for much cheaper with things that are probably lying around your house. Thanks to James Nguyen for introducing the idea to me; he showed me the dowel method and i added on the bandana to keep the dowel from spinning off while you play.
