This is the first of a series of videos of Cut Chemist performing LIVE @ The Sound Garden in Baltimore, Maryland. This video was shot around July 2006 and all together runs around 27 minutes. Sorry for the shaky camera work, but the music more than makes up for it. Music lovers around the world sing the praises of certain violins and cellos that were made more than 300 years ago in the small city of Cremona in northern Italy. The instruments made by Antonio Stradivarius, in particular, are highly regarded and the few hundred that survive today command prices in the millions of dollars. For many years craftsmen and scientists have studied these violins to find their secret. Now, a chemist in Texas claims he has already found it -- not in the structure of the instruments, but in chemicals used to preserve the wood.

DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist present "The Hard Sell" the all 45rmp record set, produced on eight turntables, an echo machine and a few guitar loop pedals. It all started with a phone call (or, in this case, a text message)..."would you want to do Freeze at the Hollywood Bowl?" Cut Chemist and DJ Shadow jumped at the chance to be the first-ever headlining turntablists at the legendary 16500 capacity venue, the site of infamous concerts by everyone from John Williams to the Beatles to the Doors. As with Freeze and Product Placement, the emphasis is on the eclectic; funk and hip-hop are present as is some rock. But Hard Sell is leaps and bounds beyond the expected, on a musical basis, as well as technical. Now utilizing 8 turntables and 2 loop pedals, new possibilities in live mixing are explored, as doo-wop mixes with punk, new wave with grime, and everything in between, all with taste and humor. Several classic hip-hop tracks are even "sampled" (via loop pedal) and reconstructed in real time, from their original elements.
