Classic Game Room - THE ART OF VIDEO GAMES book review

The Art of Video Games book review. Classic Game Room reviews THE ART OF VIDEO GAMES: FROM PAC-MAN TO MASS EFFECT from Chris Melissinos and Patrick O'Rourke published by Welcome Books in 2012. Roger Ebert says video games can never be art, this book shows quite the opposite and cites examples and captures developer interviews to prove its point. As video games are embraced as a new emerging art form the Smithsonian American Art Museum holds an exhibit called The Art of Video Games exhibit. This book is written by Smithsonian curator Chris Melisinos and features examples of art in video games from the past 40 years. Marvel at the art and creative work that went into games like Combat, Space Invaders and Pitfall on the Atari 2600. Chris then compares the early examples to '80s 8-bit classics such as The Legend of Zelda and 16-bit masterpieces like Phantasy Star IV. Modern releases like Bioshock, Minecraft and Mass Effect 2 complete the picture as developers earn bigger budgets and more advanced tools to complete their visions... but does it make better art? This hard cover book is a great addition to any gaming collection and makes a nice coffee table showpieces as well. Printed on glossy, high quality paper with great pictures and interviews you'll dig The Art of Video Games the most.

Classic Game Room - RSEAT RS EVO 3 racing seat review

RSEAT RS EVO3 review. Classic Game Room reviews the RSEAT RS EVO 3 from RSEAT.net, a carbon steel, fiberglass and synthetic leather racing seat with rugged construction that firmly holds your racing wheel in place. Optimized for use with high end video game wheels and pedals like the Thrustmaster T500RS, Fanatec GT2, GT3 and CSR as well as the Logitech G25 and G27 racing wheels. CGR uses the value priced Logitech Driving Force GT wheel which works with the seat provided you tighten it firmly and use some rubberized screws to hold the pedals in place (which is really easy to do). Build quality and styling are first rate and driving enthusiasts should enjoy the rigid arm that holds the wheel in place, although really tall people may find it confining. RSEAT RS EVO 3 is a nice looking, comfortable seat worth a look if you're into racing games like iRacing, Gran Turismo 5, Dirt 3, Dirt 3, MUSHA, NASCAR 2011 or F1 2011, many of which are featured in this review. Also featured in this review is the CGR 1972 El Camino with leather seats and the Sega Nomad playing Super Monaco GP in the El Camino, which is the ideal spot for playing Nomad. If you enjoy racing games on PlayStation 3 PS3, Xbox 360, PC or Sega Genesis then this is a driving seat to consider!

Binary Domain is a sci-fi shooter where you play as a team sent into Japan to stop a maniac making robots who look like humans and think they're human! CGR Binary Domain video review features Binary Domain gameplay on PS3 (also available for Xbox 360). Binary Domain succeeds with a great storyline and excellent storytelling. Characters are fun and likable with cheesy dialog reminiscent of good, old school B-movies and throwbacks to numerous science fiction films. Binary Domain has the option to give voice commands to your teammates which doesn't work terribly well in my opinion, you can give similar commands using button controls that seem to work fairly well. Fans of other sci-fi shooters like Sega's own Vanquish should really enjoy this fantasy romp through the future filled with robots and action! Grand Theft Auto 3 review. Classic Game Room reviews GRAND THEFT AUTO III 10 Year Anniversary edition for the iPad from Rockstar (also available for Android tablets), a mobile version of 2001's awesome GTA III, the installment that changed video games forever. I originally played through this game on PlayStation 2 way back when and love the GTA style action and mayhem, but how about these new mobile controls? While the touch screen "thumbstick" is far from perfect, the GTA3 controls on iPad feel a lot like a keyboard with a sticky d-pad. Graphics, gameplay and sound remain surprisingly consistent with the PS2 original (if there's serious changes I don't remember them). Driving with iPad controls works quite well but this game could really use a BlueTooth PS2 style controller for iPad. Classic Game Room reviews GOLDENEYE for the Nintendo 64 N64 video game console. This N64 review shows gameplay through various levels and missions in the game. Although instead of completing most levels smoothly and by the books, CGR went crazy just like Bond in License to Kill... we went rogue! We slaughtered everyone without mercy including scientists in lilly white lab coats. Take that brainiac! Think you can outsmart a hail of bullets from James Bond!? GOLDENEYE from Rare for the N64 is one of the best first person shooters ever created. It has a massive single player mission, intense and exciting gameplay, smooth controls and excellent sound design. After playing this game again we can see why CGR likes Time Splitters so much... it was made by some of the same designers! Goldeneye raised the bar quite high for shooters on home consoles. No longer were FPS games just for PC gamers who clogged computer labs with Doom for days on end, now you could sit in the comfort of your own sloth-hole and shoot through the Golden Eye video game or blast your friends in multiplayer. This was before online multiplayer so you actually had to have friends in the same location... Although little more can be learned about Goldeneye after millions of people have fallen in love with this game and written volumes about it, Classic Game Room gives is a nice retro review where we recommend it to new gamers who may have missed it the first time, and challenge those who played it in 1997 to ...

This Mortal Kombal vs DC Universe review features gameplay footage from the game in HD. This is an awesome fighting 3D fighting game, no way around it. From Midway, Warner Bros. and DC Comics comes this bizarre yet enjoyable combination of the Mortal Kombat franchise and the DC comic book characters like Superman, Batman, Lex Luther, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern and Catwoman. The Mortal Kombat characters that you know and love are here for mortal combat including Raiden, Sonya Blade, Jax, Scorpion, Sub Zero and Liu Chang. Which universe will you choose to fight in? That's the beauty of this game, fight a parallel storyline with one of two opposing sides. The writing in this game is campy, impossible and awesome. Fatality moves for Mortal Kombat and DC characters are in the game, and although the violence has been toned down a bit with DC Heroic Brutality (seriously??), the Fatality moves are fun to watch and nicely rendered in 3D animation. In many ways this is a superior game, Mortal Kombat vs. Soul Calibur IV or Virtua Fighter 5... who wins?
