Rosalie is 7 1/2 and has PDD-NOS, an autism spectrum disorder. She also has epiepsy (seizure disorder). This was a kind of unusual day. She just didn't seem 'right' today. More in her own little world than normal. Lately Rosalie has had many small breakthough seizures dispite being on several anti-seizure medications. They affect how tired she is, how much she talks, and how focused she is. On this day, she may be caught up in a few mini-seizures, because of the way she is licking her lips and really having a hard time focusing. She generally plays with her lips with her hands (pinching her lips, chewing her fingers, covering her mouth with her hands), but during this drive she had her arms crossed the entire way. There is no 'reciprocal' coversational skills like typical 7 year old girls (back and forth conversation). This is not because she doesn't want to talk to me. Before I started engaging her in this conversation she asked me 10 or 12 times which way we were going, and if she could play at Eileen's house (note - it is a 3 mile drive and we were 1/2 way there). Perseverating is the technical term. I call it bombarding me with obsessive questions over and over. Each ...
