Taurus Heater Core Flush

Flushing a 1997 Taurus Heater Core. This Era Taurus has a cooling system defect which causes the antifreeze to degrade rapidly into a rusty brown sludge in a short time. This defect was addressed by Ford years ago, but the end result still leaves owners of vehicles like this one (a 3.0 engine) to have other problems--like no heat in the winter. The water pumps are also prone to fail. Some vehicles have a heater core bypass installed--this one doesnt. Taurus forums all suggest core isolation and flushing--so this video addresses this process.

How To Bleed A Cooling System

Kind of a request, I've described this procedure a few times in print but never made a video. As I said in the video if your having issues with a fluctuating idle, no heat, or an overheat problem you may want to start here. Also, if you have just serviced the cooling system in any way this is the procedure I recommend to fill it back up. The only regret I have with this one is the end where I didn't shoot footage of closing up the radiator using the tool that I used in the video, I may show it at some point in the future. Mystery of the Gurgling Heater Core

The heater core on my 1998 Dodge Ram was gugrling air on startup, sounding like a percolating coffee maker when I would start the engine in the morning. I approached the problem by purging the system of air and then searching for a cause after that. The heater core was noisy but it never leaked fluid. This is not an instructional video and I am not a professional mechanic. This video is published for entertainment porposes only.

2000 Ford Expedition - Coolant System Flush with Degas Bottle - Clean and Thorough

We decided to research the most thorough method of Flushing the cooling system. After researching it we came up with a method that was not only thorough but nearly mess free. Take note that the radiator had to be replaced during this job because it was leaking, but that really doesn't affect the method used to do the flushing. It's also worth noting that an auto shop will NOT typically go to the trouble of doing this job thoroughly. They will typically do a quick one-time flush using chemicals, which in some cases is not even as effective as using plain old distilled water. The result will be the continued degradation of cooling in the engine and heating in the heater core. The more "calcification" that occurs in the coolant passages the less heat transfer you get. ...more at reinsmith.net

Cooling System Operation Maintenance VW Golf MK3 Engine

To drain coolant: 1. Cabin heat knob on hot, ignition key on start (engine off). Blower fan on low. 2. Remove coolant fill cap. Disconnect lower Radiator hose. Let coolant drain. 3. Remove accessories to access and remove thermostat. 4. Reassemble system and fill coolant mixture containing 50% water and 50% antifreeze. Start engine, heat on max with blower on, and keep filling coolant and squeezing hoses until coolant remains full at max mark. Parts of coolant system are: 1. Water pump 2. Thermostat 3. Radiator and Radiator Fan with Thermostatic switch 4. Hoses 5. Coolant reservoir / expansion tank 6. Pressure Cap 7. Heater Core (inside dash) 8. Antifreeze + Water = Coolant This thermostat opens at 190*F. Most Thermostats are 180 or 190*F. The Thermostat is fully open at 20*F higher than rated temperature. Every 1psi that pressure on water increases you get approximately 3*F rise in water's boiling point. Water boils at 212*F or 100*C at sea level air pressure or 0 psi gauge pressure.

ALERT - Japan explosive impact at No. 2 Nuclear Reactor - Possible contamination leak earthquake

new blast at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in northeastern Japan: An "explosive impact" occurred Tuesday morning at the No. 2 reactor, a day after a hydrogen explosion rocked reactor No. 3, the plant's owner announced. The inner containment walls may have been damaged or cracked causing radiation materials, either by water or air, to be leaked to the outside environment. The fuel rods may be exposed and deteriorating. March 14 - 15 2011 Yukio Edano, Japan's chief Cabinet secretary, said he could not rule out the possibility of a meltdown at all three troubled reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in northeastern Japan. While sea water was being pumped into the reactors in an effort to prevent further damage, "It cannot necessarily be called a stable situation," Edano said early Tuesday. Kenneth Bergeron, a physicist who used to work at the US Energy Department's Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico, said that "the release of hydrogen and the fission products (suggests) these reactors have probably had fuel rods exposed for significant periods of time." Edano's comments come amid news about an "explosive impact" that happened Tuesday morning at the No. 2 reactor. Cooling has been a problem for days at reactors No. 1 and 3, because the earthquake and the tsunami damaged those reactors' cooling systems. But cooling problems at No. 2 began Monday, when a blast at the building that contains No. 3 - said to be caused by a buildup of hydrogen <b>...</b>

While possessing good performance and firepower, the XP-47B had its share of teething problems: Its sheer size and limited ground-propeller clearance in a fuselage-level attitude made for challenging takeoffs which required long runways—the pilot had to hold the tail low until considerable speed was attained on the initial run. The sideways-opening canopy covers had a tendency to jam. The multiple-gun installation, with its tight fit and cramped ammunition belt tracks, experienced jamming problems, especially during and after hard maneuvering. Maneuverability was less than desired when compared to the Supermarine Spitfire and Messerschmitt Bf 109. The ignition system arced at high altitude. Access to the rear engine accessory pad was difficult due to the short engine mount used. At high altitude the ailerons "snatched and froze". At high speeds the control loads were deemed excessive. I also want to add my "Idle Speech" into the mix here: There are a lot of things that can contribute to an idle issue, in fact in the end it may still be there to some degree because of the nature of that engine however here are some things to start with. First start with a good tune up, use NGK or Nippon Denso plugs, don't change the wires if they are OE, if they aren't OE you might consider NGK wires as they are very good and less expensive then OE. A quality cap and rotor should be good. A new air filter also helps. Don't change the PCV valve, if you see an aftermarket PCV valve in there put a Honda in, believe it or not I've seen idle issues caused by aftermarket PCV valves, the OE's last just about forever so you can <b>...</b>

Combustion Gas Leak Detector for Cylinder Head Gasket Check

It is worth paying attention to this video if you have suspected cylinder head gasket leak. The detector will give you a sure sign that exhaust gas is leaking past into the cooling system and either pressurising the cooling system beyond what is acceptable and overheating the cooling system. You can check for gasket leak and any signs of a cracked head. This tool will save you money in unnecessary stripping for investigation...... and is also an excellent service tool for checking for any gas present that acts as an early warning .. there is nothing worse than having an engine overheat when you don't need it to.

Fixing Faulty Ebay Junk - Final Part 4 - Xbox RROD - Up And Running

4th and final part in my 'fixing faulty Ebay junk' series where I document my attempt at fixing a RROD Xbox 360. In this update I breifly explain some of the options available for fixing the RROD and give my opinion on the subject. I completely rebuild the console and start the process of stress testing before finally reselling. Microsoft's cooling system in the original 360 was really badly designed and is very inefficient. The fan shroud mod is a simple way to help direct and increase airflow over the GPU heatsink. I can't find the original tutorial by the guy who originally came up with the idea but doing a quick google search I found this pretty good one... tinyurl.com It's not going to undo Microsoft's design flaws but it will help :P This is the final part to the 360 series but I have more consoles on the way. Next up I have a Nintendo DS which is refusing to play games. I hope to do more of these videos over the coming weeks. Thanks for watching!

Engine coolant system and compression testing

There are lots of ways to diagnose a head gasket or to check the general health of an engine, but this video is focusing on 3 major systems. 1) The coolant system 2) The combustion chamber 3) The valvetrain COOLANT SYSTEM PRESSURE TEST: The boiling point of water (coolant) RISES under pressure. It's imperative that the coolant system has NO AIR in it, no leaks, a known-good thermostat, and a good radiator cap in order to function properly. If the pressure stamped on your radiator cap is not being achieved, Boyle's law is not taking affect, and your coolant will boil when the car is being driven at it's normal operating temperature, and may exhibit signs of a blown head gasket. Many have cursed the process of burping all the air out, sometimes even taking several days and heat cycles to complete the process. COMPRESSION TEST: The point of a compression test is to diagnose the health of each combustion chamber. A compression test is a crude test to determine if a ring, valve seal, valve, or a head gasket problem exists. It will show immediately in this test because the gauge will not rise to the pressure specified for your engine. There are 3 numbers you need regarding your car's setup. High limit, Low Limit and Range. The high limit is specified by your car's manufacturer and reflects the equipment they used to build the engine. If you EXCEED the high limit, chances are it's caused by excessive carbon build-up, and a Seafoam or MCCC treatment will usually remove the carbon <b>...</b>

Climate Change Update (03 May 2011) Radioactive Floodwaters Mississippi (Nuclear Event)

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is investigating after a radioactive element is found in the Mississippi river. Authorities say it started at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Plant in Port Gibson. They say they went to check for standing water in an abandoned unit, and found a build up of water. They decided to pump it out, and after taking a sample, they discovered the chemical "tritium" had been released into the river. Officials say the River has diluted the radioactive material, and is not causing harm to the people. Right now the incident is under investigation. There's no word on how much Tritum was pumped into the water. hisz.rsoe.hu Situation Update No. 1 On 03.05.2011 at 02:57 GMT+2 Radioactive leakage from fuel rods at a nuclear power plant in the city of Tsuruga in Fukui prefecture on Honshu island of Japan are believed to be the cause of a surge in the density of toxic substances detected in coolant water, the prefectural government said Monday. Japan Atomic Power Company, owner and operator of the potentially faulty nuclear plant, has said it will attempt to manually override the plant's No. 2 reactor's system in an effort to contain the leak and conduct further investigation into its critical cooling systems. hisz.rsoe.hu "It's one of the most incredible gatherings of animals that's ever been recorded. Japan Declares Nuclear Emergency After Devastating Earthquake - Alex Jones Tv 1/2

Paul Joseph Watson www.infowars.com March 11, 2011 The horrifying consequences of the biggest earthquake to hit Japan since records began are only just beginning to be discovered, with the tsunami that followed causing massive devastation and engulfing cities and airports, leading to the declaration of a nuclear emergency at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant after efforts to cool malfunctioning reactor cores failed. The 8.9 magnitude quake that struck Japan's north eastern coast this morning sent 30 foot high waves sweeping through impacted areas and the death toll is climbing by the hour. But an even greater tragedy could be imminent after Japanese authorities declared a nuclear emergency following technicians' failure to pump water to cool a nuclear reactor plant located in the town of Okuma. "The operator of the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant reported an abnormality Friday following a powerful earthquake which hit a wide area in northeastern Japan including Fukushima Prefecture, the industry ministry said," reports Kyodo Wire. "The system to cool reactor cores in case of emergency stopped at the No. 1 and No. 2 reactors of the plant operated by Tokyo Electric Power Co., it said." NHK Broadcasting reports that all six reactors shut down immediately following the earthquake, but that electrical problems prevented cooler pumps in reactor #1 from functioning. Emergency cooling systems were successfully activated for reactor #2, but presumably failed for reactor #1. Under <b>...</b>

ThinkPad T420s Fan Noise Issue - Part 1 of 2

This my first youtube video. Sorry for the rough splitting, I didn't know that youtube videos had to be shorter than 15 minutes so I cutted it in half. I made it to demonstrate how the cooling system on the new Lenovo ThinkPad T420s works. As you may see and hear of course, the fan noise and its behaviour are both inacceptable. I hope this demo will make Lenovo engage the second and third gear to solve the issue as this is really bad publicity, I'm concious.

Pandora's Box - 6 - A Is For Atom

This episode was named after a 1953 General Electric propaganda film that explained nuclear power and features artfully chosen footage from this film. The episode is an insight into the history of nuclear power. In the 1950s scientists and politicians thought they could create a different world with a limitless source of nuclear energy. But things began to go wrong. Scientists in America and the Soviet Union were duped into building dozens of potentially dangerous plants. For business reasons, General Electric and Westinghouse decided that the types sold would be versions based on the reactors used in nuclear submarines, but sold with dubious claims made about their cost effectiveness and safety. However, in 1964, at AEC it was found that while small reactors were safe, the bigger core sizes as used in power plants were potentially susceptible to China syndrome—an accident where the reactor core could melt through the bottom of the reactor containment vessel. A study showed that this could potentially happen, and if it did it would cause very large damages. These concerns were largely kept from the public. The episode goes into some detail over attempts to find solutions for the China Syndrome issue. In the Soviet Union, reactors were considered too expensive until Brezhnev came to power. Under his reign, Anatoly Petrovich Alexandrov designed cheap reactors that were produced at high speed, with very few safety features, sometimes not even containment vessels. This was <b>...</b>

Life is too expensive to save in Japan by Arnie Gundersen 9/20/11

Fairewinds Introduces a Japanese Language Edition and Identifies Safety Problems in all Reactors Designed Like Fukushima vimeo.com Gundersen expresses concerns that the nuclear industry and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission are not addressing major safety issues that have become evident since Fukushima. These issues include serious design flaws in the BWR Mark 1 containment, fundamental flaws in the Boiling Water Reactor vessel design, and problems with detonation shockwaves. The NRC and the nuclear industry are using a flawed cost benefit computer code that underestimates the value of human life and minimize property damages after an accident, which has the effect of justifying continued operation of reactors without safety modifications. Also, Fairewinds announces the launch of the Japanese language version of its site, Fairewinds.jp. sidenote: I edited out a couple of minutes to stay under the 15 minute upload mark. I do not have Any Strikes on my account, yet YouTube has taken the opportunity to not allow me uploads longer than 15 minutes. TOKYO-JAPAN: Food, Water, & Power Shortages [3-24-11] Think this won't happen anywhere else?

MIRROR Tokyo shoppers clean store shelves of basic goods 3-24-11 SHINO YUASASHINO YUASA, Associated Press TOMOKO A. HOSAKATOMOKO A. HOSAKA, Associated Press TOKYO (AP) — Nearly two weeks of rolling blackouts, distribution problems and contamination fears prompted by a leaking, tsunami-damaged nuclear plant have left shelves stripped bare of some basic necessities in stores across Tokyo. Some people are even turning to the city's ubiquitous vending machines to find increasingly scarce bottles of water. At the source of the anxiety — the overheated, radiation-leaking nuclear plant — there was yet another setback Thursday as two workers were injured when they stepped into radiation-contaminated water. The two were treated at a hospital. Supplies of bottled water grew scarce in Tokyo, one day after city officials warned that the level of radioactive iodine in the tap water was more than twice what is considered safe for babies to drink. Tests conducted Thursday showed the levels in the city's water fell to acceptable limits for infants, but they were up in neighboring regions. Frightened Tokyo residents hoping to stock up on bottled water and other goods flocked to shops across the city, some of which tried to prevent hoarding by imposing buying limits. "The first thought was that I need to buy bottles of water," said Reiko Matsumoto, a real estate agent and mother of a 5-year-old, who rushed to a nearby store to stock up on supplies. "I also don't know whether I can let her <b>...</b>
