What is CrossFit? CrossFit is an effective way to get fit. Anyone can do it. It is a fitness program that combines a wide variety of functional movements into a timed or scored workout. We do pull-ups, squats, push-ups, weightlifting, gymnastics, running, rowing, and a host of other movements. Always varied, always changing, always producing results. Kids, cops, firefighters, soccer moms, Navy SEALS, and grandmas all do CrossFit. These guys seem to be having a race, they do what I have been told is called a Fran routine with both kiping pullups and squat thrusts w/ 135 pounds, but this is something you have to see to believe. The pullups are not cheating TRY IT they are really hard to do, but the squats are equally as difficult if not more so... plus no rest... this is truely amazing.. TRY IT BEFORE YOU COMMENT!

"In these economic times when schools have it rough, when districts have it rough, then the first thing that gets cut is the very thing that could probably help the kids in school more than cutting it out, right?" says Dr. Jon Gary, a member of CrossFit Kids. "So PE gets eliminated from schools, and that is one aspect of how they can actually improve their performance in schools." Gary looked into exercise and learning and was disheartened to find so little exercise in schools. Then he found some success stories, one from a second-grade teacher in San Diego who uses CrossFit Kids. With 30 minutes a day—as opposed to her district's requirement of 50 minutes every six weeks—her students greatly improved their proficiency in math and English. Harnessing the brain after exercise has positive results. While exercise alone won't make you smarter, Gary says it improves "the processing power of your brain." In the studies on brain function after exercise, executive function, creativity and memory all improve. CrossFit Kids HQ at CrossFit Brand X in Ramona, Calif., builds study time into their teen classes. Says Gary: "What we want to do is have them study their worst subject—something that they don't particularly like—and this is a time of attention, a time of maximal uptake ... that is where I think we're going to see the benefits across lots of domains in the classroom rather than on the exercise field." CrossFit - Transforming an NFL Quarterback with Matt Hasselbeck and Dan Cerrillo


"This is a validation of everything that I've done," says Dan Cerrillo, the owner of CrossFit Bellevue in Bellevue, Wash. "It's a great honor." Cerrillo has been training Matt Hasselbeck, former Seattle Seahawks QB and current Tennessee Titan. Hasselbeck says his first exposure with CrossFit came from his brother Tim, who CrossFitted and impressed his family with his "chiseled" physique. Their father, Don, a veteran Reebok sports-marketing executive and Super Bowl champion, started CrossFit and also impressed Matt. "He looked like me," Matt says. "I need to step up my game." Hasselbeck was skeptical at first, but he gave CrossFit a try. He knew it would be hard but good, but he had no idea if it would transfer over to the gridiron. "The thing I didn't know is how much of this stuff would really help me in the season," he says. Thinking he was already in good shape, Hasselbeck says the workout Cindy was a rude awakening for him. "He was dying, he was crushed, and he was obliterated," Cerrillo says. Since Hasselbeck has been training at CrossFit, both his perspective and his fitness have been transformed. "I bought in. I love it. I'm in," he says. "I feel so much stronger than when I started. I feel ready for the NFL season to come," Hasselbeck says. In his first start for his new team, Hasselbeck threw for 263 yards and 2 TDs in a narrow 2-point loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Leave your tights, weightlifting shoes and iPods at the door. In this camp, your name doesn't go on the whiteboard. It goes on your plain white T-shirt. This is SEALFIT's Kokoro Camp. "The idea is to just get them completely out of their comfort zone," says SEALFIT founder Mark Divine. On the line to accept that challenge are CrossFitters including Mikko Salo, Kristan Clever, Rob Orlando, Tommy Hackenbruck, Caity Henniger, Jimi Letchford and original firebreather Greg Amundson. "We don't just try to hurt these people physically; we teach them," Divine says. "We teach them how to be mentally tough, teach them how to be leaders, how to be good team players, and we try through a crucible experience to elicit their warrior spirit." In Part 2, training takes the athletes to the beach for some full-body submersions, push-ups into the oncoming surf, partner drags and carries, and plenty of running. Can the crew make it through Day 1? "Right now, all I'm thinking is that this is the warm-up and it hasn't even gotten hard yet. That's all I'm telling myself. It's going to get worse," Hackenbruck says.

"Tabata Fight Gone Bad" Complete 40 intervals of 20 seconds of work followed by ten seconds of rest. Perform 8 consecutive intervals of each of the following exercises: Wall-ball 20 pound ball, 10 ft target. (Reps) Sumo deadlift high-pull 75 pounds (Reps) Box Jump 20" box (Reps) Push-press 75 pounds (Reps) Row (Calories) There is no additional rest between exercises. Each exercise is scored by the weakest number of reps (calories on the rower) in each of the eight intervals. The score is the total of the scores from the five stations.
