CueTable Billiard Contest 2009 05

This had to be the most difficult run out for me so far. I know I have said that before but it is true here too. I tried it at least 20 times before I ever came close. You have to get a decent leave on the 3 after making the 2 but no matter how good the leave is on the 3 you still have to get shape on the 4, break up the 7-8 cluster (or be prepared to play the 7-8 combo) and get shape on the 6 then NOT make stupid mistakes and mental errors. That last part was my biggest hurtle. I finally had some quite time this morning and even giving this pattern my full attention it took me about 5 attempts to get all the way through it. Thank you CueTable.com for a great challenge and I am now looking forward the next one.

CueTable Billiard Contest 2008.10 by BigRigTom

This is my 3rd entry and by doing these videos I have been improving my position skills. I got a little out of line for the shot on the 7 but thanks to watching a lot of Jimmy Reid I knew how to play 3 rail position to the 8 ball. Then as preditably... I hit the 8 a little to soft and left more of an angle on the 9 than I wanted but I still managed to sink the sucker! Thank you Dr. Dave for the 30 degree rule. That helped me know where the cue ball was going when I shot the 9 with a little follow to get to the long rail before the side pocket.

This run was a lot easier than I expected even though there were a number of potential traps. The trick is to be sure to get a decent angle on the 2 after banking the 1. Then you have to be careful to not bump the 9 ball when coming off the foot rail and back up table for the 6. The rest was a matter of making long cut shots on the 2, the 3, the 5 and the 8. I owe Joe Tucker for that shot which has won many games for me. I highly Joe's drill to anyone who has trouble seeing the angle or controling the cue ball on those types of shots. Thanks to CueTable.com again for provide me with a nice challenge too.

CueTable Billiard Contest 2008.11-1

The CueTable Billiard Contest 2008.11-1 is the hardest one I have done so far. My run out in this video is a bit of improvisation and a bit of luck plus some decent shot making, but that does clearly describe 9 Ball in my opinion.

CueTable Billiard Contest 2008 12

The toughest part of this pattern is to get from the 1 to the 2 with the correct angle and then there is a 2nd problem of getting from the 6 to the 7. My solution was to play inside english with draw and with a fairly strong stroke to get the cue ball to come across for the 2. Then I played low left when I shot the 6, that threw the shot off just enought to ricochet the 6 out of the corner and into the side...hey...you have to get lucky sometimes!

CueTable Billiard Contest (13) - BigRigTom

BigRigTom does 9 ball the hard way. There is no doubt that if I had better position skills this game would be easier for me but ultimately the test is in making the shot you left yourself and I can do that a lot of the time. Someday maybe I will learn to play this game right but for now I plan to just enjoy playing the game.

This CueTable.com Billiard Contest 2009.04 9 ball run out was recorded April 22nd. Since I have won already I decided to just play this rack the way I would expect a pro to play it. The transition from the 4 to the 5 is a risky proposition and since the 5 - 9 combo is a high percentage shot for even me I would expect that an A player on up to a pro player would immediately see that as the preferred choice to win this rack.

The Second 9 ball run out contest by CueTable in October 2008 as the title states. It was not as hard as I originally thought but the 7 ball did present a challenge and I know I was NOT supposed to break it out but I could not resist the practice on the break out shot. It worked GREAT for me!

CueTable Billiard Contest 2009 02

This is my submission for the CueTable Billiard Contest 2009 02 which is held at his web forum located at contest.cuetable.com . All the shots in this run out were relatively routine 9 ball shots but there were several opportunities to hit the shot too hard, too soft, or use the wrong english and of course there were several opportunities to either follow or draw. It is never a good idea to think that making 9 balls in a row is an easy thing, no matter how simple it is, there are 9 chances to make a mistake. Once a mistake if made it may not be possible to recover and complete the run. I hit the seven too hard and left myself on the wrong side of the 8 which forced me to play a cut into the side pocket and run 3 rails for postion on the 9....I came up a little short for the 9 but it was still a fairly easy cut to the corner to close out the rack.
