With a ten fold sales multiple since 2004, Dacia continues to gain market share and now with its latest model it can shed the low cost moniker. This is needed to enter the ultra-competitive SUV sector because even if with a relatively low base price of €11900 compared to the competition, the Duster isnt really in the category of inexpensive vehicles.

Dacians - the Romanians' Ancestors - ancient Dacia = Romania today

Romanians = Dacians + Romans --- The Dacian Wars --- Dacians had been on the Roman agenda since before the days of Caesar when they had beaten a Roman army at the Battle of Histria. In 85, the Dacians had swarmed over the Danube and pillaged Moesia and initially defeated an army the Emperor Domitian sent against them, but the Romans were victorious in the Battle of Tapae in 88 AD and a truce was drawn up. From AD85 to AD89, the Dacians (under Decebalus) were engaged in two wars with the Romans. In AD87, the Roman troops under Cornelius Fuscus were defeated, and Cornelius Fuscus was killed by the Dacians under the authority of their ruler, Diurpaneus. After this victory, Diurpaneus took the name of Decebalus. The next year, AD88, new Roman troops under Tettius Iullianus, gained a signal advantage, but were obliged to make peace owing to the defeat of Domitian by the Marcomanni, so the Dacians were really left independent. Even more, Decebalus received the status of "king client to Rome", receiving from Rome military instructors, craftsmen and even money. Emperor Trajan recommenced hostilities against Dacia and, following an uncertain number of battles, defeated the Dacian King Decebalus in the Second Battle of Tapae in 101 AD. With Trajan's troops pressing towards the Dacian capital Sarmizegethusa, Decebalus once more sought terms. Decebalus rebuilt his power over the following years and attacked Roman garrisons again in 105 AD. In response Trajan again marched into Dacia ...

New Dacia Duster Racing Car with Driver Alain Prost

Dacia, a brand of the Renault group, is to contest France's celebrated Trophée Andros ice-racing series. Alain Prost, former French F1 driver, will drive a competition version of Dacia Duster. The Trophée Andros is a competition that stands apart in motor sport as it places a cap on the use of complex and costly technological solutions, placing the emphasis instead on vehicle and driver ability. The announcement coincides with the revelation by Dacia of the name and design of the brand's sixth model, Duster. This crossover model will target customers looking for an affordable everyday all-terrain vehicle.
Roman conquest of Dacia ( modern day Romania ) part 1/5

Inhabited by the ancient Dacians, today's territory of Romania was conquered by the Roman Empire in 106, when Trajan's army defeated the army of Dacia's ruler Decebalus ( Dacian Wars). The Roman administration withdrew two centuries later, under the pressure of the Goths and Carpi. The Romanian people was formed by the Romanization of the Roman Province of Dacia. The Romanians are descended from local populations: Dacians (Getae, Thracians) and Roman legionnaires and colonists. In the course of the two wars with the Roman legions, between 101 - 102 AD and. 105 - 106 AD respectively, the emperor Trajan succeeded after in defeating the Dacians and the greatest part of Dacia became a Roman province. The colonization with Roman or Romanized elements, the use of the Latin language and the assimilation of Roman civilization as well as the intense development of urban centres led to the Romanization of the autochthonous population. The intermarriage of Dacians with Roman colonists, formed the Daco-Roman population, which is part of the ethnogenesis process of the Romanian people. This process was concluded by the 10th century when the assimilation of the Slavs by the Daco-Romanians was completed. Kings of the Dacians The best known Dacian king were Dromihetes, Burebista and Decebalus who organized powerful states and proved to be skilful military strategists. The Dacian king reigned with the help of a council of noblemen and with the advice of the high priest. Dromihetes is ...

Dacia Duster drive-test in Morrocco

Dacia Duster test drive near Marrakesh, Morocco. The brown ones are 1.5 dCi 4x2, with excellent behavior on and off route. The silver ones are the 1.5 dCi 4x4, very adept in rather difficult passages. And the navy blue one is the 1.6 16V which is not so good. With a 4x4 system coming from Nissan, ASR+ESP, A/C, electric windows, optional leather, RCD+MP3 and comfortable seats, Duster is a nice surprise and a competent offroad crossover. Don't put him in the same league as his bigger brother Patrol, as we're talking about two completely different cars (looks are deceiving :)). ► All-New 2013 Dacia Lodgy [Glace Andros Trophy version]

The Dacia Lodgy Glace is the rebellious little sister of the new family road car which will be launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2012! The name itself evokes notions of generous interior space and a family world. However, thanks to its audacious character and record of rising to the craziest sporting challenges, Dacia has decided to make its third Trophée Andros campaign truly exceptional by rewriting all the rules. For the first time in the history of the Trophée Andros, the series will feature an MPV. To spice up the new season, not just one but two Lodgy Glace entries will be on the grid for every race: one will be driven by Alain Prost, who finished as runner-up in the 2010 and 2011 Trophée Andros, at the wheel of a Dacia Duster Glace. The other Lodgy Glace will be shared by his son, Nicolas Prost and Evens Stievenart, Alain Prost's team-mate and joint winner of last winter's Superfinal at the Stade de France, Paris.
