Protecting your rights -- Data Protection

There are 500 million people from 27 countries living in the European Union. We have the right to live, work, travel and shop anywhere in Europe. We make over a billion cross-border trips every year and 12 million of us live in another EU country. But sometimes we face barriers to our rights and our freedom to move across Europe. The European Union is working to make sure everyone benefits from the same rights in everyday situations. As a European citizen, your rights are protected at home, abroad and online.

Bournemouth & Poole Primary Care Trust confirmed in direct Breach of the 1998 Data Protection Act P1

Bournemouth and Poole Primary Care Trust are confirmed as being in direct breach of 1998 Data Protection Act under Principle One. 'The sharing of personal data without the owners permission or knowledge' effectively. They have confirmed in writing they they knew they were breaching the act but did it anyway as it caused them less work. The findings of my investigations are truly worrying. In Bournemouth and Poole alone 11 surgeries took part with 7000-11000 patients per surgery potentially effected. The figures and volume of breaches are staggering. Enhanced Health Care Services of Birmingham have your data. They are NOT NHS, they are a for profits company and your personal data protection has been breached. This process took place country wide and potentially effects millions of people. Under a freedom of information act request I can confirm countrywide 15.9m people were selected to be part of this program. Actual figures of data breaches are coming in but is suspected to be in the hundreds of thousands, if not millions. Several MP's have dived for cover and refused to comment in every direction. The Minster of State for Health knows all about this but blames the NHS PCT who in turn blame him. Tobias Ellwood 'Our Local MP' was my best friend for two days with this story and then ran for the hills like a man with a pinless hand grenade in his pocket. Highly unacceptable from a man I know and used to respect. The actions and behaviour of Bournemouth and Poole PCT are ...

Consumerization 101: How to bypass the iPad password in 5 seconds

... more at BringYourOwnIT.com *** UPDATED 11 Apple has fixed this security flaw in iOS 5.0.1 (9A405) *** The consumerization of IT is the single most influential technology trend of this decade. Companies are already well aware of it, as they wrestle with the growing influence of smartphones, tablets, Facebook, Twitter, Dropbox and on and on. While this growth does bring business value, too many companies make the mistake to trust consumer technology with corporate sensitive data without deploying appropriate enterprise-grade infrastructure to secure and manage it. Consumer technology is sexy, convenient and easy to use. When it comes to security and data protection however, consumer technology still has a long way to go. Security and data protection in fact remain top concerns among IT professionals -- see The Consumerization Report 2011 at bringyourownit.com One of the most evident aspects of the Consumerization of IT is represented by the influx of consumer mobile device in the enterprise. Two mobile platforms have quickly gained the majority of this market: the Apple iOS that powers iPhones and iPads and its close competitor Android. The ongoing debate among IT professionals these days is whether Apple iOS is more secure than Android and whether the strict control that Apple exercises on operating system and applications actually results in a more secure platform. Well, as it turns out the Apple mobile operating system is not so secure after all, as shown by the ...

vPower DEMO: Instant VM Recovery, U-AIR, Instant File-Level Restore

I'm Doug Hazelman, director of product strategy for Veeam Software, and I will show how you can recover an entire VM, an application object or an individual file from a regular image-level backup in a matter of minutes -- and all this without having to extract the VM from the backup. These capabilities are only available with vPower -- the award-winning technology in Veeam Backup & Replication v5 that eliminates the fundamental shortcomings of traditional backup approaches to reduce the cost, ensure the reliability and increase the value of data protection. Already, Veeam has made enhanced data protection a reality for more than 15000 customers. And with v5 and vPower, Veeam takes data protection to a whole new level with • 100% reliability with SureBackup • 60-second RTOs with InstantRestore • And near-continuous data protection with SmartCDP Instant VM Recovery Let's say you have a 500 Gb Exchange server in your production environment, and an image-level backup of it is stored on network storage. If such a critical VM goes down, you need to get it back online as soon as possible so that your users are not affected. If you were using old tools, you would have to restore the entire 500 Gb VM from the backup first -- this means you would have to find spare storage and then wait for several hours while the image is extracted. But that is the old way -- with Veeam vPower and Instant VM Recovery, you can get your Exchange server back online in a few minutes or less. How ...

Intel 520 Series 240GB Solid State Drive Review And Benchmarks

Full Review - www.eteknix.com www.eteknix.com When we see the name Intel come about, the first thing that rightly comes to mind are their supreme processor department, but what some people may not know is that this is not all they no produce. Along with their many lines of processors, they also produce motherboards and Solid State Drives. With the technological abilities they have to produce the high end components, it comes as no surprise that our initial expectations of this drive when it came in were very high especially from what we've seen of their 320 series SATA II drives in the past. The 520 series drives are designed to bring a whole new level of performance to the market with drives that can give a random read performance of up to 50000 input operations per second (IOPS) and a sequential read of upto 550MB/s. The impressive read speeds are paired with random writes up to 80000 IOPS and a sequential write of upto 520MB/s. Speed is not the only thing this drive has to offer, data security and integrity is another key feature and with the drive offering a pre-configured 256-bit AES along with End to End Data Protection, you can be rest assured your data is safe and secure. One method is the intelligent elimination of all your data through overwriting the entire disk with meaningless code. This overwrite-deletion method ensures that there is no way to potentially recover previous data stored to the device, effectively setting you SSD back to factory default. A less subtle method is the physical destruction of your SSD by applying an over-current to the NAND flash memory and thereby physically destroying these.

Value your privacy? Don't fill in 2011 census (25Mar11)

Freedom of Information campaigner Heather Brooke tells us that you should NOT fill in the crooked 2011 census, because you do not know where your personal details are going. Well actually, you do know. American defence contractor running the show will have a copy in the USA, and Moscow Mk2, aka Brussels will also have a copy - breaking the laws on the data protection act, just like the 2011 census did. The guest saying what is wrong with giving stuff like your religion, it "means nothing", if it means nothing, why is the government asking the question? Just remember this kind of information was VERY useful to the Nazi's in 1939, but now we have computers and a willing New World Order to use the information against you. They even want a copy of your signature (to fake documents in your name?) Filling the form you could be aiding and abetting a crime, because you will help the data protection act be broken, and your personal details will be around the globe. Filling the census in is of course your choice, so you decide if you want to give these criminals your personal data. Recorded from BBC's Daily Politics, 25 March 2011.

Google Faces Heat Over New Privacy Policy

This is the VOA Special English Technology Report, from voaspecialenglish.com | http Privacy activists are concerned about Google's new privacy policy as of March first. The company says one main policy is replacing more than sixty separate policies for different products. Activists say the changes will make it easier to track the activities of users across Google's many products -- from Gmail to YouTube. Marc Rotenberg heads the Electronic Privacy Information Center in Washington. He says Google's aim is to create a single unified profile of its users. "We believe that not only is that a threat to privacy, we actually believe it is illegal, because last year Google entered into an agreement with the US Federal Trade Commission in which they said they would not engage in that kind of data sharing without the explicit permission of their users." Google says its new policy will make it simpler for users to share information across services like Google Search, Gmail and Google Calendar. And it says the new policy will help personalize each user's experience. Over time, it says, users can expect to see better search results, fewer unwanted advertisements and more content targeted to their interests. But Marc Rotenberg says in return, people who choose to use Google will lose control over the information they share. "The type of information you might provide for an e-mail service, for example, such as your address book ... is different from the type of information that you ...
