thefilmarchive.org For the United States, 1945 to 1964 was an era of economic growth and prosperity which saw the victorious powers of World War II confronting each other in the Cold War and the triumph of the Civil Rights Movement that ended Jim Crow segregation in the South. The period saw an active foreign policy designed to rescue Europe and Asia from the devastation of World War II and to contain the expansion of Communism, represented by the Soviet Union and China. A race began to overawe the other side with more powerful nuclear weapons. The Soviets formed the Warsaw Pact of communist states to oppose the American-led North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) alliance. The US fought a bloody, inconclusive war in Korea and was escalating the war in Vietnam as the period ended. On the domestic front, after a short transition, the economy grew rapidly, with widespread prosperity, rising wages, and the movement of most of the remaining farmers to the towns and cities. Politically, the era was dominated by presidents, Democrats Harry Truman (1945--53), John F. Kennedy (1961--63) and Lyndon Johnson (1963--69), and Republican Dwight D. Eisenhower (1953--61). For most of the period, the Democrats controlled Congress; however, they were usually unable to pass liberal legislation because of the power of the Conservative Coalition. The Liberal coalition came to power after Kennedy's assassination in 1963, and launched the Great Society. The immediate years unfolding after ...

"Fear in the Night" (1947) is film noir/mystery film. DeForest Kelley in his first starring role (third film). In this "murder by proxy" Mr. Kelley plays the main character Vincent Grayson aka "the fall guy" who wakes up one morning to recount a strange dream of grisly violence and becomes more convinced of it being true when he sees marks and scratches on his body. However, he still doesn't know if he really killed someone or dreamt the whole thing. Things gets even weirder for Vince and he reluctantly asks his detective brother-in-law Cliff Herlihy (Paul Kelly) to help solve the mystery. It was a good movie, and while I might be biased Deforest Kelley was really good in this. The mystery keeps you interested. It is based on the story Nightmare by Cornell Woorlich/William Irish.

Awesome 1972 "mother nature's revenge" film from director William F. Claxton. Mankind's experiments on mother nature's creatures has gone awry once again, this time creating giant, bloodthirsty rabbits! Damn, I love this flick. Perfect for a triple bill with "Food of the Gods" and "Day of the Animals". Stars Stuart Whitman, Janet Leigh, Rory Calhoun and DeForest Kelley

They were the golden trio of Star Trek - the best of friends on the show, and the best of friends in real life. It always makes me happy to know that Bill, Leonard, and De were truly that close, and that their friendship was as deep in real life as it was on Star Trek. In their honor, I made this tribute about how they were true friends, no matter what. Enjoy! Dedicated to Bill Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, and to the memory of DeForest Kelley, with all my heart.
