Desiderata - Max Ehrmann Another inspirational poem set to music ;) if you like this check out my other vids, feel free to comment. Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than ...

Desiderata

The author is Max Ehrmann, a poet and lawyer from Terre Haute, Indiana, who lived from 1872 to 1945. It has been reported that Desiderata was inspired by an urge that Ehrmann wrote about in his diary: "I should like, if I could, to leave a humble gift -- a bit of chaste prose that had caught up some noble moods."

Desiderata - The Campaign!

Campaign! DESIDERATA This film is the work from a groundbreaking project, which has bought together young disabled people in Milton Keynes with those from other countries as they work to build campaigns around issues that affect them. Inter-Action MK (www.interactionmk.org.uk) worked with a group of disabled young people aged 14 -- 26yrs, on this exciting project. There was a series of workshops with artists and songwriter Tom Billington where they identified an issue that was important to them and created this film! The project is supported by Parliamentary Outreach who has provided access to MP's, peers and other parliamentary staff. This film was then delivered to a panel of MPs at The houses of Parliament in February 2011. The work featured is a part of the Cultural Olympiad celebrations in Westminster Hall in 2011-12.

Richard Burton reads: 'Desiderata. Found In Old St. Paul's Church, Baltimore 1692 '

Following thankfully copied from businessballs.com at www.businessballs.com quote The common myth is that the Desiderata poem was found in a Baltimore church in 1692 and is centuries old, of unknown origin. Desiderata was in fact written around 1920 (although some say as early as 1906), and certainly copyrighted in 1927, by lawyer Max Ehrmann (1872-1945) based in Terre Haute, Indiana. The Desiderata myth began after Reverend Frederick Kates reproduced the Desiderata poem in a collection of inspirational works for his congregation in 1959 on church notepaper, headed: 'The Old St Paul's Church, Baltimore, AD 1692' (the year the church was founded). Copies of the Desiderata page were circulated among friends, and the myth grew, accelerated particularly when a copy of the erroneously attributed Desiderata was found at the bedside of deceased Democratic politician Adlai Stevenson in 1965. Whatever the history of Desiderata, the Ehrmann's prose is inspirational, and offers a simple positive credo for life. unquote

I open my eyes today To leave the world of dreams behind We all know the nothing A hole in our hearts we try to forget Or drown in jest and jokes So I open my eyes today To let myself be torn apart In the rigid chill of my vow All my dreams will die My blood is seeded with hateful ghosts Their cleaving hands upon my faults Pleading my guilt as they pull me down Into the sea of broken hope How could I have known? All my dreams were lies I know All my dreams were lies All my dreams have died Die.

Heres a virtual movie of the American poet Max Ehrmann reading his exquisite inspirational poem "Desiderata" (From the Latin: " Desired things").. The poem is read definitively by the brilliantly talented youtuber David Buchalter a PhD student at the University of Arizona. He focuses on Medieval and Early Modern English literature, especially in Chaucer and Shakespeare, and has a very fine voice for reciting poetry. His very interesting channel covering his music and poetry etc etc can be found at this link. www.youtube.com "Desiderata" (Latin for "desired things", plural of desideratum) is an inspirational prose poem about attaining happiness in life. It begins: Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. Max Ehrmann first published it in 1927. Desiderata was inspired by an urge that Ehrmann wrote about in his diary: "I should like, if I could, to leave a humble gift — a bit of chaste prose that had caught up some noble moods." The poem has been the subject of several copyright disputes, and Ehrmann's authorship has been called into question after a church claimed it was prose originaly written in 1692,but conventional belief is that the modern language the poem is written indicates that it was indeed the original work of Ehrmann.no doubtt inspired by his studies of classical philosophy. "Desiderata": Things to be Desired ~

In 1927, Max Ehrmann wrote a famous, inspirational poem called: Desiderata. Desiderata is Latin for "desired things." Ehrmann's prose poem is a beautiful declaration of what is essential to one's life and how to live peacefully. In light of the heated discussions on DeafRead lately about "deficit thinking," with diverse groups of deaf people -- consciously or unconsciously -- pitting themselves against one another, I decided to make and post this video clip below using Ehrmann's poem. The point of this video is simply to show that I, for one, am choosing to focus my energies on developing personal integrity, adaptation, inclusion and compassion for others. You, me, we are all a sum of the great body. You, me, we are all SUM-BODY DEAF. More at: www.earofmyheart(dot)come
