(Policy induced) Diffusion of Innovations - A demand-supply Model based on Cournot Competition

Download: www.openabm.org The model integrates both demand and supply in a single model. The underlying demand function is the crucial element that links both sides. It is determined by consumer´s learning status, the awareness for the new technology, and consumer´s individual price thresholds, their willingness-to-pay. Diffusion proceeds in our model, if interactions distribute awareness (Epidemic effect) and rivalry reduces the market price (Probit effect). Endogeneity is given due to the fact that consumer awareness as well as their willingness-to-pay drives supply-side rivalry. Vice versa, rivalry determines pricing and therefore consumer adoption and awareness. Market entry and exit decisions as well as quantity and price settings are driven by the underlying demand function. We utilize Cournot competition to calculate competitive dynamics. Suppliers compete on the quantity of output they will produce. Firms ... •produce a homogeneous product, there is no product differentiation. •do not cooperate, there is no collusion. •have market power, each output decision affects market price. •define their output quantity simultaneously. •try to maximize profits. •have the same prerequisites, eg cost structures (variable and fixed costs). 12 sub-processes sequentially divide the simulation procedure. Policy outcomes are evaluated in terms of effectiveness and efficiency. Effectiveness is primarily measured via acceleration (adoption-speed) and saturation effects (adoption <b>...</b>

Remembering Ev Rogers Pt 1.mov

Everett Rogers (1931-2004) was a pioneer in the field of innovation dissemination and communication. Best known for developing the "diffusion of innovations" paradigm--which is broadly used throughout the social sciences--Rogers was the author of thirty books and hundreds of scholarly articles. His work examined technology transfer and the rise of technologies, health communication, media agenda setting, intercultural communication, and entertainment-education. This documentary--which includes interview footage taped just days before his death in October 2004--celebrates Rogers' life as an internationally-acclaimed professor, author, researcher, and health educator. Producer: Dr. Glenda Balas; Videographer/Editor: Jason Balas

9 Maturity levels in Empirical Validation - An innovation diffusion example

Download: www.openabm.org The model integrates both demand and supply in a single model. The underlying demand function links both sides. It is determined by consumer´s learning status, the awareness for the new technology, and consumer´s individual price thresholds -- their willingness-to-pay. In brief, diffusion proceeds in our model if awareness spreads due to interactions and firm´s rivalry reduces the market price. Endogeneity begins when consumer´s awareness and willingness-to-pay (demand function) drives supply-side rivalry. Market entry and exit decisions as well as quantity and price settings are completely determined by the underlying demand function. We utilize Cournot competition to calculate competitive dynamics within our model. It is a widely accepted economic theory that explains an oligopolistic industry structure in which companies compete on the quantity of output they will produce. Key functionality of the model is the option to select different ways to (empirically) calibrate and validate Agents. Based on a 9-stage maturity matrix, the validity of the model can be changed. Huge deviations occur with "no" or "random-normal" validation, while only small deviations occur between "aggregated-microdata" and both "microdata" validation taxonomies. Parameters: M is the number of periodic mass media interactions, H is the probability for word-of-mouth interactions. Both variables can be adjusted to simulate shifts in Innovation and Imitation ratios <b>...</b>

Secrets of Social Diffusion

David Gershon describes Everett Rogers' research on how innovation spreads through a culture and suggests that the most effective approach is to reach the 15% of early adopters first, then the 35% early majority, and then the 35% late majority, leaving the 15% of laggards for last. David says he uses Rogers' model in his projects but that many social change agents seek to convince the laggards first, often unsuccessfully.

Marketing Tips to Persuade Your Customers to Buy

www.MarketingBeyondAdvertising.com What steps are you taking to help your customers imagine what it's like to own your products or services? Today's Monday Morning Marketing Quote discusses the role of forward planning in decision making, and comes from Everett M. Rogers and his book, Diffusion of Innovations. "In developing a favorable or unfavorable attitude toward an innovation, an individual may mentally apply the new idea to his or her present or anticipated future situation before deciding whether or not to try it. This vicarious trial involves the ability to think hypothetically and counterfactually and to project into the future: What if I adopt this innovation? Forward planning is involved at the persuasion stage." -- Everett M. Rogers For more marketing tips, please visit: www.MarketingBeyondAdvertising.com

While Zhao recognizes that there are fundamental problems with American public education, he praises the culture of education in this country, a culture that prizes ingenuity, entrepreneurship and <b>...</b>
