This 1960 DKW was V8 powered, now converted back to normal 900 cc two stroke 3 cylinder engine. Took 5 years to source together engine parts. Paid way too much for a used crankshaft. Balanced and KG coated pistons, cleaned ports, honed block, milled head, polished carb. venturi. I can't wait to hear it cackle!

1958 DKW 3=6 restoration progression. Floors now repaired, most all aluminum trim is polished, Most engine detailing finished, all lights working. Today was a mile marker day, first exterior wash ( yippe !), Engine starts and idles nice.

The welds are still cooling, this video is that fresh. This 1960 DKW 3=6 has been a work in progress in my posession for 17 years. It's been a long time coming. The theme is light weight and racy ! This car came with no seats, nor floors, just a bunch of fowl smelling rat nesting fluff and some rusty dust around the gaping huge holes. The floors rotted to nothing-ness years ago, barely even had sill plates intact. But now.... ooh la la ..! The new floors are in!. The custom made front seat bases are fully adjustable, painstakingly handcrafted for maximum comfort and ergonomics. ( I had no templates to copy, fabricated everything from scratch = lots of seat time ) The Black DKW now has a place to set your buns hun !. Hold on for the next installment. A 4 point roll bar from my old race Talon will grace the back seat soon.

You'd never be able to tell I've worked on the floors again all day unless you have a sharp eye....This car was part of an large DKW auction destined for the scrap heap, within minutes of being towed to the shredder I diverted the tow driver. I bribed him 25 bucks to drop it in my driveway, way back in 1996 ( along with my yellow car , that has money on the roof ) It's exciting to think of having two running and driving Deeks.

1st time on a real freeway with my 1958 DKW 3=6. The car is pretty sorted out now. The engine really likes to rev up. I was suprised it went 70mph so easily. Traffic hampered any super high speed test runs. The engine just screams, come ride along!

This is the first test run out of garage in Jan. 2009, since getting engine running / brakes working. It sat parked in Placerville, CA since 1962! Orig. mileage is 54077. Orig. paint patina, suicide doors, interior bad. 900cc 2 stroke 3 cyl. engine. Timing was WAY off, ran poorly here.

The 1961 DKW Junior motor is running wonderfully. A number of European auto-makers produced two-stroke powered cars in the 1950s, but by the time the DKW Junior came along, the market was beginning to resist two-stroke powered cars as the industry increasingly standardised on four stroke four cylinder units which accordingly were becoming cheaper to produce. But the sound from these engines are truly unique.
