The Legend of the Dogman
The Michigan Dogman is a local cryptid that was popularized in 1987 by DJ Jack O'Malley and his production manager Steve Cook of WTCM radio. The two men invented the Dogman (or thought they did) by cobbling together various legends (like the New Jersey Devil and the Boggy Creek Monster), and then wrote a song about him that they played as a prank on their show. To both men's shock and surprise, reports of actual sightings of the Michigan Dogman started to pour in almost immediately after broadcasting the prank. Looking into the sightings a bit more seriously, the two men discovered that such reports had been taking place in and around Michigan since the early 1800s, when French traders visiting the local Indians referred to the creature as the loup garou (which is French for werewolf. Numerous people who report seeing the Dog Man describe a moment in which a creature who looks like a very unusual and very large dog suddenly stands upright and seems to transform itself into a cross between a dog and a man right before their eyes.

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST This is the original footage of the night my friends and I videotaped an encounter with an unknown creature. I recorded it in September of 2009, accompanied by my friends Justin Duffield and Alex Butterworth. To clarify; the creature itself does not actually appear on film. Alex was the only one of us who saw the beast itself, and what he later described to me was unlike any officially recognized species. The animal that chased us that night was large, fast, and ran confidently on two legs. I apologize for my sub-par camera work, but it was very dark at the time (the camera used in the video does not have night vision) and I was too frightened to turn around and get better footage. I originally posted this video under the title, "Georgia Werewolf/Dogman Sighting". However, while I still believe in the existence of these animals, I recently concluded that the creature in question was in fact most likely a Sasquatch. After reviewing past sightings, I realized that the animal's characteristics were very different from those of the "manwolves" reported in Wisconsin and Michigan - the most significant difference being its almost superhuman ability to leap through the treetops as a means of travel. Such behavior has never been associated with bipedal canine sightings, as of present. After doing some research however, I learned that this behavior is actually common in Sasquatch encounters. There is a 7 foot tall half-man/half-doglike intelligent creature living in the deep center of northern michigan woods. He stands on two legs. John Shea and I were playing basketball outside last night at 10:30 pm. We heard a screaming noise in the distance. It sounded like a women screaming bloody murder. We jolted inside and locked the doors. This is what was scratching on my house trying to get in. There have been many rumored sighting of the "Dogman."
