Gas-pistoning is an interesting phenomenon seen at Kilauea and other volcanoes. It is caused by the accumulation of gas within, or the rise of a gas slug through, a column of lava. In either case, the gas pushes up the overlying lava (the "piston"). Eventually, the gas breaches the surface and escapes, sometimes as a forceful jet of fume and spatter. The lava then drains back into the vent. Gas pistons can occur as single events or as a repeating series comprised of dozens or even hundreds of events. During mid-2006, eruptive activity at the informally-named Drainhole vent, on the floor of Pu`u `O`o crater, was often characterized by periods of gas-pistoning. The video sequence shown here, from June 3, 2006, is a great example of the gas-pistoning that was occurring at that time. The opening is about 8 meters (26 feet) across and is inset within the floor of the Drainhole vent itself, which is about 25 meters (80 feet) across. The images that comprise this video were acquired by a time-lapse camera positioned on the northern lip of the Drainhole vent and about 15 meters (50 feet) away from the opening. The image acquisition rate was 1 frame per minute, and the resulting video is played at 10 frames per second.

E39 (E46 has same issue) the interior door liner has been trimed to "flash" water (just like a good roofer would do a roof on a house) causing it to leak as normal to the inside of the door so it can leak out of the door drain holes. It's normal for water to leak into doors, it just needs to drain out of the normal drain holes on the bottom outer edge of the door. You can also just reglue the liner. This is just one of several ways to repair the water leak.

When water is leaking from a side by side refrigerator's freezer, the problem is almost always that the defrost drain hole is plugged up. Defrost the freezer and get the shelves out. Remove the screws holding the lower back wall insode the freezer, then take out the back wall. Below tyhe aluminum coils you will see the drain hole. Use hot water and a piece of plastic tubing to clear the blockage. Blow thru the plastic tubing until the blockage falls thru and the water drains freely. Now put it all back together. Done.

The little Benchmade Nimravus Cub II (LIte) is impressive. The entire loadout weight on this diminutive blade is just 5.4 oz. The blade itself is only 3.5 ounces! This is a project building small root cellars out of 55 gallon plastic drums patterned from the information in Purdue Extension Application note HO-125. This is my nephew Ben lending me a hand. It is January and they are working great. Additional info: you do have to put a drain hole in the bottom for condensate. Just pour some water in the bottom and drill a 1/2' hole in the center of where ever the water pools. The lids are uninsulated and in Jan and Feb with nightly lows in the teens, the temperature inside was 34F. This was with 4" of straw thatch and 18" of course thatch, covered with a tarp. Note that 34 degrees is ideal for a lot of vegs like cabbage. However, potatoes and fruits like it around 40-45F. I would recommend additional insulation on the exposed barrel and also insulating the lid. Also fruits like it drier and right now the barrels are at 95% humidity because I didn't put the heavy thatch on until later. I would recommend for fruits to thatch the barrels completely from the start so the temperature is does not go up slightly during the day - which causes it to breath in humid air at night when the barrel top cools. Over time this condenses driving the humidity up.
