Armando Carvajal (?), conductor Recorded ca. 1955 Chilean Blanca Hauser is regarded as her homeland's greatest Wagnerian soprano. Born in Temuco, in November 1906, she settled in Santiago in 1926, where she studied singing with Consuelo de Guzmán (herself a pupil of the celebrated Italian contralto Gabriella Besanzoni) Her career officially started in 1932, with a concert under the baton of maestro Armando Carvajal, later to become her husband, in whcich se sang Isolde's Liebestod. Shortly after, she sang Eva in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg y Elsa in Lohengrin, opposite Danish tenor Lauritz Melchior. She is much remembered for her portrayals of Tosca, Mimi, Desdemona and Aïda. She performed frequently in the main Latin American opera houses, specially Lima's Municipal and Montevideo's Solís. Along an extended career, Blanca Hauser sung 40 leading roles, including, apart from the afore mentioned, Leonora (both Trovatore's and Forza del destino), Amelia (Un ballo in maschera), Santuzza, The Mother (Hänsel und Gretel ), Maddalena (Andrea Chenier), as well as the main lyric Wagnerian heroines such as Elisabeth (Tannhäuser) and Senta (Der fliegende Holländer).
