Howard talks about a recent event in which a van driven by an 18-year-old girl stoned on drugs ran off a Long Island road on Tuesday and killed a woman mowing her lawn before smashing into her brick home, police said. Rebecca Twine-Wright, 69, was almost done cutting her lawn about 9:30a.m. when a commercial van driven by Kayla Gerdes jumped a curb and ran her over - crashing into the Hempstead, LI, home with what a neighbor called a "tremendous boom." When the killer van finally came to a stop, its entire front end was inside of Twine-Wright's tidy Colonial-style home on Cathedral Ave. Twine-Wright, a retired doctor, was dragged underneath the vehicle and died at the scene. "Not like that! No!" screamed her son Chauncey Twine, 31, stunned by the tragic accident. Gerdes, of Freeport, LI, was charged with second-degree manslaughter, driving while impaired by drugs and unlicensed operation of a vehicle, Nassau County police said. The van's owner, Brian Steele of Oceanside, LI, was a passenger, but he was not charged, police said.
