I had only been playing doublebass for a few months at the time of this recordig, so please be lenient with he comments about that ;) For the record, ALL double strokes were played with one pedal, ie the ones at the end of the gutiar solo, as you can very clearly see by how crazily tired I was after that piece :) I would hve LOVED to show you the FootCam of this, but I forgot to rewind the tape for the whole third set, so with a few songs I unfortunately couln't use the FootCam shots. I have to emphasize, I know calling this a "cover" is wrong, seeing as I only PARTLY stayed true to the song's drums (or lack thereof), through the WHOLE song I play some variations of the beats, phrasing and fills, since 99% of what I play is improvised. Even though I have done my fair share of session and studio drumming, that has little to zero effect on these video's, I kind of see them as live performances. I'm NOT aiming to be accurate to the original drums, I'm just aiming to enjoy myself. I asked my good friend JP Smit (guitar genius, WHAT a legend) to write and record some little electric parts of the song, and it ended up giving the song an EPIC rock edge the original didn't have! STOKED. In terms of the drumming, SUCH a cool song to groove to! Could do cool little groovy patterns in the verses, and the choruses are powerful enough to make space for some solid 4/4 driven rock playing, my crashes weren't too happy but oi.. ample fun. (whoa, now that's one complicated sentence) Crazy amounts of fun, this one. Loved the groovy parts in the intro and outtro, aswell as the heavy stuff in the middle. Obviously the last few choruses were also quite nice to do :) (As for the outtro doublebass crossovers; it's the only part of the song that was written beforehand, the rest is all improvised on the spot, to keep things fresh and unpredictable.) I have to emphasize, I know calling this a "cover" is wrong, seeing as I only PARTLY stayed true to the song's drums (or lack thereof), through the WHOLE song i play some variations of the beats, phrasing and fills, since 99% of what i play is improvised. Even though i have done my fair share of session and studio drumming, that has little to zero effect on these video's, I kind of see them as live performances. I'm NOT aiming to be accurate to the original drums, I'm just aiming to enjoy myself. I did this solely to challenge myself. Once I had chosen the grooves I wanted I arranged them using Ableton Live with no edits or tempo changes. I was aiming for flow, groove and climax with the arrangement. I committed the whole medley to memory and learnt it all by ear. I do not transcribe.
