Dublin, Ireland

Recorded August 13, 2008. Dublin is both the largest city and capital of Ireland. It is located near the midpoint of Ireland's east coast, at the mouth of the River Liffey. The population of the Greater Dublin Area is 1661185. The video begins along the River Liffey in downtown Dublin and continues as I take a boat cruise on the river. Next I walk past the Custom House and over to busy O'Connell Street. The video concludes with views of Dublin from the open top of a double-deck tour bus. From: timvp.com

MORE VIDEOS HERE: www.shackred.com Dublin is the largest city and capital of Ireland. It is officially known in Irish as Baile Átha Cliath or Áth; the English name comes from the Irish Dubh Linn meaning "black pool". It is located near the midpoint of Ireland's east coast, at the mouth of the River Liffey and at the centre of the Dublin Region. Originally founded as a Viking settlement, it evolved into the Kingdom of Dublin and became the island's primary city following the Norman invasion. Today, it is ranked 23rd (down from 10th in 2008) in the Global Financial Centres Index, has one of the fastest growing populations of any European capital city, and is listed by the GaWC as a global city, with a ranking of Alpha - which places Dublin amongst the top 25 cities in the world. Dublin is a historical and contemporary cultural centre for the island of Ireland as well as a modern centre of education, the arts, administrative function, economy and industry.

Ireland went through an economic growth period in the late 1990 s dubbed the Celtic Tiger . This along with an influx of Eastern European workers, due to changes in the European Union, has really influenced the cultural landscape of Ireland. In Dublin I interviewed Niamh Ni Mhir who works for Hostel World,a local IT business that rode the Celtic Tiger to become the biggest Hostel booking website online Niamh explains how Ireland has changed since my last visit, in the early 1990 s and also tells us what it is she likes about living in Dublin. Thanks to Jacobs Inn for providing fine backpacker accomodation for the Overlander. Ireland 2006 Dublin

Dublin 2006 Dublin is the capital city of Ireland and is a beautiful old city, but it is growing fast. We hope that it keeps it old charm while becoming a modern cosmopolitan city. This was the second visit to Dublin for Adele and I, the first for Mike. We got from Dalkey to Dublin by the Dart Line getting off at the Tara Station which is in walking distance from O'Connell Street. The best way to get around Dublin to most of the different sites is the Hop-on Hop-off Tour Bus. Some of the sites we visited are on other Slideshows like Kilmainham Prison, Guinness Brewery, Dublin Castle, Christ Church, and St. Patrick Cathedral. We also visited Trinity College with its Book of Kells and the National Museum of Ireland both do not allow picture taking, but are must sees on any visit to Dublin.
Sights and Sounds of Dublin Ireland

I spent the day in Ireland while in transit, so as the weather turned out so well, I went for a walk around central Dublin to take in the sights and sounds to see if my camera could too. It's a tricky place to film, to be honest, but I hope you like it.

Dublin, Ireland : A toast at Guinness

As Lonely Planet put it so well, the definition of a great city: a place that makes virtue out of vice and knows exactly where to find fun. Welcome to Dublin. From the top floor of the Guinness Storehouse's Gravity Bar at 46 meters, Dublin looks like a jumble of different styles of architecture - not the sexiness of Paris or the stateliness of London, but within it is a spirit that exudes lots of smiles. Maybe some of those smiles started when Arthur Guinness signed a 9000 year lease for a disused brewery at St. James's Gate for an annual rent of 45 pounds in 1759. On the tour where some 3 million pints of Guinness stout are brewed every day, one gets to taste this distinctive stout that gets its ruby red color from the roasted barley. And for beer drinkers they can celebrate in knowing that a pint of Guinness has less calories than a pint of orange juice. So maybe that is why some of the locals start their day with this breakfast of champions. The tour explains all the ingredients that go into making Guinness from yeast, barley both malted and roasted, hops and water. The ancient Irish Harp symbol was first used by Guinness and then adopted by the Irish government. Today you can see the harp symbol in the new Samuel Becket bridge over the River Liffey in Dublin. The Spire of Dublin is the tallest structure at 120 meters -- but I don't get the point. But at Trinity College I do get the point where the oldest illustrated book, The Book of Kells which is one of Ireland ...

Solidarity Protest in Dublin for the Egyptian people 28-01-2011

On the fourth and most violent day of protests in Egypt against Mubarak's 30-year iron fist rule in which at least 20 people were killed and more than 1000 injured, Ireland's Egyptian community along with people with live conscience from other Muslim countries and activists from the Irish group Act for Palestine and the Irish Anti-War Movement vented their outrage at the ongoing murderous repression of their countrymen outside the Egyptian Embassy in Clyde Road, Ballsbridge, today. No room in the inn for democracy, concern or empathy for what was happening outside this establishment as the embassy staff sought refuge behind closed doors and window curtains filming the protest from a chink between the curtains for its duration. Cheered and dismayed in turn at the latest updates coming in via Twitter and Al Jazeera the mood of the protesters swung wildly but what was not in doubt was their rock solid solidarity with their fellow countrymen and their desire to see Mubarak join another tyrant in Saudi Arabia exile, Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.

The Brazen Head, Dublin, Ireland

On a walkabout of Dublin, Ireland on my birthday in 2007 I came across The Brazen Head, Ireland's oldest pub. The pub has been located on the same spot on Lower Bridge Street since 1198. The current building was constructed in 1759. I enjoyed a couple pints of Guinness with some friendly locals and then continued on my way. The singing at the end of this one is hilarious. That was a great birthday. (The Brazen Head is located at 20 Lower Bridge Street, Dublin. Tel: 01 677 9549)
St. Patrick's Day 2012 Dublin Ireland

St. Patrick's Day mayhem in Dublin Ireland 2012 =^) Saint Patrick's Day (Irish: Lá Fhéile Pádraig, "the Day of the Festival of Patrick") is a cultural and religious holiday celebrated on 17 March. It commemorates Saint Patrick (c. AD 387--461), the most commonly recognised of the patron saints of Ireland, and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. It is observed by the Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion (especially the Church of Ireland), the Eastern Orthodox Church and Lutheran Church. Saint Patrick's Day was made an official feast day in the early seventeenth century, and has gradually become a celebration of Irish culture in general. The day is generally characterised by the attendance of church services, wearing of green attire and the lifting of Lenten restrictions on eating, and drinking alcohol, which is often proscribed during the rest of the season. Saint Patrick's Day is a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Newfoundland and Labrador and in Montserrat. It is also widely celebrated by the Irish diaspora, especially in places such as Great Britain, Canada, the United States, Argentina, Australia, and New Zealand, among others. Today, St. Patrick's Day is probably the most widely celebrated saint's day in the world.
