Since Dumble amps seem to generate a lot of interest, I thought that I might post an audioclip of the tonal possibilities (clean+overdriven, both played with and without preamp boost) available. Equipment used: Dumble ODS(blackface) 100, Marshall 1x12" semi-open cabinet with Eminence Texas Heat 12" speaker. I used my go-to guitar, a Flaxwood Custom: Seymour Duncan calibrated set of minihumbuckers, neck scalloped from E1 to G3 to facilitate bending, bridge pickup 1 sentimeter further from bridge than normal to juice the tone. Close mic is Neumann U-87, ambience stereo-pair is Sennheiser. TC reverb in mixdown. No EQ was used. The drone that you can hear in the background is all my guitar, recorded some time ago as an afterthought, that I find addictive. This is a 1979 Dumble Overdrive Deluxe combo amp. It's an amalgamation of all the ingredients that parallel the Overdrive Special, which is thought by many guitarists to be the ultimate 'Holy Grail' of guitar amps. Essentially this amp is a Fender Deluxe Reverb chassis with custom circuits by Dumble to achieve an other worldly overdrive tone. This amp is very rare and is one of only 2-3 known Overdrive Deluxes built by Dumble. It is the only Overdrive Deluxe (and one of only a handful of Dumble amps) to have reverb and tremolo which possibly makes it one of a kind. The audio was recorded by an internal mic in an inexpensive digital camera, but sounds remarkably good for what it is. In person, this amp is absolutely stunning when overdriven, and has the most luscious tremolo and reverb you are likely to hear.

Shane Conaway demo's his Carr slant 6 that has been modded by Redplate amps to Dumble ODS specs. Henry at Replate amps rebuilt the overdrive channel and kept the clean channel stock. They also gave the amp a footswitchable mid boost on the lead channel and put reverb on both channels! The amp came stock with reverb only on the clean channel and carr amps said it was impossible to add it later. Contact redplateamps.com for amp mods and custom built amps that are very affordable.
